Today we’re giving you a PSA: Thanksgiving turkey isn’t technically what makes you so sleepy after your meal! 🤯

🦃 While turkey does contain tryptophan, which does indeed help regulate sleep, it doesn’t contain enough to make you drowsy – on its own, that is. ☝️ As it turns out, carbs increase the effects of tryptophan, especially when it comes to serotonin production. 🥐

Basically, it’s the combination of turkey and carb-filled appetizers that puts you into a food coma on Thanksgiving! 😴 The more you know, right?✨

November is National Sleep Comfort Month! 💤 So grab your favorite pillow and a warm blanket, because we have some tips for making your bedroom as comfy as possible.😌

🧣 Fabric makes a difference – make sure your sheets are made from a material you like and are put through the wash on a regular basis.

🛏️ Pillows come in many different shapes and sizes – elevated or wedge pillows can be particularly helpful for sleep apnea.

😴 Juuuust right – if you’re often too hot or too cold, consider getting a heated blanket or a cooling pillow.

😤 Breathe easy – it’s hard to feel comfortable when you have apnea episodes; we’ll help you treat your symptoms so you can settle in for the night. 🌙 ✨

BOO! 👻 It’s finally time to stay up late watching scary movies and freak ourselves out at haunted houses. 😱

Between all the spooks and giggles, we know you’re probably not expecting to get very much sleep. But there’s no reason to throw obstructive sleep apnea into the mix!🙅

Remember to wear your oral appliance and set up your CPAP – the monsters under your bed will appreciate not having to listen to you snore!👹

We know you might have a craving for candy this holiday season – our team certainly does! 🍬 🎃

There’s nothing wrong with enjoying your favorite Halloween treats (or tricks), but keep in mind that eating too much chocolate or candy corn before bed can disrupt your sleep patterns and make sleep apnea worse. ☠️

Beware the sugar rush so you can have a month full of frightful delights! 👻

We love sweater weather as much as you do, but the seasonal changes can make it more difficult to get a good night’s rest. 🥶🌡️

Here’s how you can enjoy your favorite fall activities without daytime drowsiness:
• Use a humidifier to combat dry air
• Limit your exposure to light at night – yes, that includes your phone!
• Sleep with a warm blanket

Happy October! Or should we say “happy pumpkin-spice season”? ☕🍂

Many of the spices you associate with autumn drinks are actually good for helping you “fall” asleep. 😉 While we wouldn’t recommend having a PSL before bed, warming up a cup of milk with cinnamon and nutmeg will have you feeling warm and cozy in no time! ☺️

We’re so glad to hear that, Pamela! That’s the beauty of an oral sleep appliance. 😊

Scrolling on your phone right before bed reallyyyy isn’t the best for your sleep routine, but we get it. Sometimes it’s really hard to slow your brain down and relax. 🤯

Instead of staring at a blue light for hours on end, why not try a bit of light reading? 📖 Emphasis on “light.” Turning a physical page can be just as stimulating as a screen if the only thing you can think about is finding out what happened next! ☠️

Look for something that’s cozy and low-stakes, and, most importantly, put the book down once you do start to feel sleepy. 😉

Sleep talking can be one of the more amusing side effects of sleep apnea, but what actually causes it? Does anyone know?🤨

As it turns out, we do! ☝️🤓 There might be more causes than you’d expect, so buckle up and get ready for this laundry list:

• REM – Your brain is actually really active during the deepest stage of sleep. It’s so active that sometimes, unusual motor commands “leak through.”
• Sleep deprivation – At the same time, not getting enough rest increases the odds of sleep talking by, ironically, making you enter REM sleep more often.
• Alcohol – It alters brain chemistry and disrupts sleep patterns; the perfect recipe for sleep talking.
• Medical conditions – Like narcolepsy, Parkinson’s, and of course, sleep apnea.
• Age – Children are more likely to talk in their sleep than adults.
• Mental health conditions – Such as anxiety and depression.
• Certain medications – Like antidepressants and sedatives.
• Environmental factors – Basically, things that can interrupt your rest, like stress, jet lag, and loud noises.

Figuring out what’s causing your sleep talking is all about narrowing down the possibilities, so don’t hesitate to schedule a sleep test at SleepMed Solutions!😌✨

If you’re not quite sure whether you have sleep apnea or not, there’s a simple device that can help you figure it out – and you might even have it on you right now! ⌚ Apple Watches can detect breathing disturbances while you sleep, and many doctors use the information it records for diagnostic purposes. ☝️🤓

Of course, you’ll have to have the right settings selected in order for this to work. Here’s how you do it:

• Go to the Health app on your iPhone
• Select “browse”
• Tap on the “Respiratory” option
• Press “Sleep Apnea Notifications” and “Set Up”
• Follow the on-screen prompts

After wearing your watch to bed for about 10 nights, you should have a chart that shows you how your breathing is impacted during sleep. 🤗 And voila! You’re one-step closer to a diagnosis and solution. 😁

Exercise can help you feel ready to tackle the day ahead 💪😁 – or, if you’re strategic, it can help you wind down for a good night’s sleep! 😪

🧘 Yoga is particularly good for helping your body feel relaxed and sleepy. Plus, it can encourage flexibility and reduce muscle tension. 😌✨ If you’re interested in adding some yoga poses to your bedtime routine, Child’s Pose, Co**se Pose, and Cat-Cow are good ones to start with. 👍 You can also surf through YouTube to find more structured, targeted guidance.😊

Remember, stress affects you physically, too, so it’s important to take some time to check in on your body. ☝️😌
