Sleep talking can be one of the more amusing side effects of sleep apnea, but what actually causes it? Does anyone know?🤨
As it turns out, we do! ☝️🤓 There might be more causes than you’d expect, so buckle up and get ready for this laundry list:
• REM – Your brain is actually really active during the deepest stage of sleep. It’s so active that sometimes, unusual motor commands “leak through.”
• Sleep deprivation – At the same time, not getting enough rest increases the odds of sleep talking by, ironically, making you enter REM sleep more often.
• Alcohol – It alters brain chemistry and disrupts sleep patterns; the perfect recipe for sleep talking.
• Medical conditions – Like narcolepsy, Parkinson’s, and of course, sleep apnea.
• Age – Children are more likely to talk in their sleep than adults.
• Mental health conditions – Such as anxiety and depression.
• Certain medications – Like antidepressants and sedatives.
• Environmental factors – Basically, things that can interrupt your rest, like stress, jet lag, and loud noises.
Figuring out what’s causing your sleep talking is all about narrowing down the possibilities, so don’t hesitate to schedule a sleep test at SleepMed Solutions!😌✨
