Autism spectrum disorder had directly touched the life of each founding member of Autism Unbound, either by chance or by choice. We are parents and professionals determined to reach out to our local community and society at large to shape desirable opportunities for persons affected by autism in accordance with their individual needs, abilities, strengths, and preferences. Together, through consid
eration and cooperation, we will make a lasting, positive difference. Mission
At Autism Unbound, our mission is to enable persons affected by autism spectrum disorders (ASD) to live more independent, full lives by influencing the future today. Our focus is dedicated to the areas of advocacy, and support. We are committed to fundraisers and special events throughout the year to bring our mission from vision to reality. Advocacy
We strive to raise public awareness about autism and how it affects individuals, families, and society. Through our everyday lives and board action, we are ever-present in the community to advocate for our focus and mission. We impart necessary information and self-advocacy skills to our community to enhance the ability of individuals, their families, and guardians to successfully make lawmakers aware of our positions. Working in conjunction with other autism-based organizations throughout the country and the greater disability community, we seek to inform and influence the development of public policy at the local, state, and national level. Education
We are dedicated to the promotion and practical application of learning opportunities that empower individuals, families, and professionals to make informed decisions regarding the care and treatment of persons affected by autism. We firmly believe in access to evidence-based best practices, while respecting the rights of the persons directly involved to make the decision about which interventions to pursue. Our Teacher Grant Program, supports Guilford County Schools students with autism by providing essential educational classroom materials for their teachers and therapists. Support
We encourage families to network in order to share experiences, information, concerns, and solutions in an environment of acceptance and understanding. Every month during the school year, Autism Unbound hosts a Mom's Night Out, and a fun social activity for our families. We maintain a growing database of information which includes resources recommended by families and individuals affected by autism.
