I wrote on article for a while ago on differential plying in which I identified 4 levels of differential plying and how small changes in how you tension your singles as you ply can alter the look of your plied yarn. If you missed it or want a more hands on experience, I’m very excited to be teaching Differential Pl(a)ying at Carolina Fiber Fest in March. Come join me for a unique workshop exploring what exactly differential plying is, how to ply at each level, and why being able to identify each type is such an important skill to develop for becoming a more intentional, consistent spinner. We’ll go from a balanced ply to a supercoil and everything in between. While this class is an opportunity to learn a few creative plying techniques for anyone wanting to expand their repertoire of textured yarn techniques, it’s a useful class for spinners of all levels. For newer spinners, it’s a chance to gain a better understanding of what’s going in your plied yarns. For experienced spinners, it’s an opportunity to really master plying and produce more consistently plied skeins.
