🥵: The heat will be no joke over the next few days, we will see some of the hottest temperatures so far this year with near record high temperatures. Heat Index values will be in the 100-112°F range for a good portion of the state on Saturday and likely extend into early next week as well. Below is a look at the max expected heat index values on Saturday (the feels like) once you factor in the real temperature and humidity, this is what it'll feel like in direct sunlight in the mid-afternoons. The greatest risk for extreme heat is from 1 PM to 7 PM each day, but many areas will struggle overnight to get out of the 80s and upper 70s.

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, and stay out of the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors.

Do not leave young children or pets unattended in vehicles. Car
interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

It was a true pleasure to act as a judge for the Agricultural and Safety and general safety 4-H competitions this week in Raleigh. The young people worked really hard and their presentations were great. I especially enjoyed ones about kitchen safety, rooster attacks, and one young person’s very persuasive argument about football and safety gear. NC State Extension, with the generous financial support of NC Farm Bureau and NC Cattlemen’s, has launched a new tool for connecting those needing hay with those who have hay to sell. The newly launched website, https://www.nchayfinder.com, allows you to search for hay by your zip code. You can then sort by distance, type of hay, or price.

If you have hay for sale, you can create a listing by creating an account.

🙄 Yesterday, Tropical Storm Andrea formed in the Atlantic- the first named storm of 2025. Yikes.

🌞 The good news is that it will not impact NC and is no longer being tracked. But, it is that it is a great reminder that now is the time to prepare!

Be aware and careful out there this week.

Be aware and careful out there this week.

Yes, it's summer, and yes, it gets hot and humid, but the first big high heat and humidity week of the year can catch you off guard. Be safe, drink plenty of water, and stay cool, as heat indices are expected to reach 100-106° this week, particularly on Wednesday and Thursday. Old, young, and pets are very susceptible to the heat impacts.
