The Triad Yoga Institute was established in 1999 by co-owners Terry Brown and Jerry Cunningham. We have come a long way since our first studio opened on South Elm Street in downtown Greensboro, moving and expanding our studio space to our present location on West Market Street in January, 2011. We are fortunate to have many of the best yoga intructors in the area teaching at TYI, offering a variety of classes for every student of yoga from beginner to advanced. We also offer speciality yoga classes including Gentle, Stretch, Flow and Therapeutics and Exercise. An upheld philosophy here at Triad Yoga is one of compassion, seeing the needs of the individual as the highest priority. We address physical needs and offer tools for the mind and spirit. Our 200 hr and 500 hr teaching training programs are recognized by Yoga Alliance. The Triad Yoga Insitute's short history is now blended into the long 6000 year history of yoga, and for that we are proud.

Join us for Yoga Studies on January 28 at 5:30pm for Addressing Tension and Pain in the Intrascapular Muscles.

Upper back pain between the shoulder blades is known as intrascapular pain. Pain within the intrascapular area often stems from everyday activities that stress surrounding muscles. Muscular strain is a common contributor, occurring when muscles are overused or improperly engaged. Poor posture contributes to stress in the scapular region. Habits like slouching alter the natural alignment of the spine and shoulders. This misalignment places sustained tension on the muscles and connective tissues around the scapula. The altered mechanics can also disrupt the coordinated movement of the scapula across the rib cage. Yoga and other practices can help!— All Levels.

Enjoy this share from Terri Feil!

“Yesterday I drove 4 hours to go see the monks in Rock Hill, SC. It was not the peaceful experience I was expecting. There was a LOT of people pushing to get a look, with their phone on their face, and rushing in front of us. I barely got to see them rush by. I also had conflicting feelings because the more people there, the better the chance their mission has an impact.

On the drive back home, something clicked...

My peace is fragile. I was tested after I waited for 4 hours and then was pushed out of the way. My peace hung in the balance of other people's actions. My peace depended on the experience I got while there.
Peace that exists when conditions are perfect is NOT peace, is comfort.

Peace is not fragile for them because they don't protect it. They carry it within them through chaos and adversity.

Peace strengthens the same way a muscle does, by being used under resistance.

I thought I was going for a peaceful experience. Instead, I came out with a better understanding of peace itself and how it is something you constantly work on within you.

All that to say, THANK YOU. Your mission had an impact on me beyond what I could have imagined.”

We are Floating and Flying on the Great Yoga Wall during our Yoga Studies on Jan 14 at 5:30pm! Come practice with us!

The Great Yoga Wall offers the opportunity to explore many of our traditional yoga practices in a new way, allowing us to adapt the practices to an ever changing body. Poses like Shirshasana (Headstand) can be practiced without putting weight on a compromised cervical spine. The Yoga Wall can also be used to create exhilarating practices that allow us to be suspended and generate a feeling of flying! Come explore with us! Students should be familiar with the Great Yoga Wall. Online students should have a Yoga Wall at home.

Using a yoga block for piriformis release works through myofascial decompression and trigger point therapy. By placing blocks strategically under the buttock next to the sacrum, you apply targeted pressure that mimics a deep tissue massage to loosen tight connective tissue (fascia) and the piriformis muscle itself.
