Journeys Consultant and Education Services PLLC provides consulting, training and education services for Doulas, healthcare professionals and expectant parents. My name is Shirena Smith, MSW, LCSW, Cht, Certified Doula(DONA), and I bring over 20 years of experience in mental and maternal health. I am passionate about supporting doulas and other professionals by offering specialized consultation an

d training that helps build deeper understanding and stronger relationships with clients. Whether it's enhancing knowledge of mental health diagnoses, developing effective communication and relationship-building skills, or providing educational training for supporting families, I am dedicated to equipping you with the tools to support both pregnant individuals and their loved ones. Black individuals face real danger in maternal care - advocacy and support matter.

Meet Danielle - a pregnant Black woman concerned about becoming another statistic.

She’s aware of the disparities that exist in maternal care, and she’s thinking about how to protect her experience as she prepares for birth. She wants to feel seen, respected, and supported every step of the way.

For Danielle, a doula can play an important role in helping her voice be heard. Someone who supports informed decision-making, provides continuous, attentive care, and helps create space for her preferences and needs to be recognized.

For the month of April, we’re sharing a series of personas highlighting different people who might benefit from a doula - because every story deserves support.🙌🏽

Black mothers deserve to be seen, heard, and centered in research 🖤

Researchers are currently looking for Black women to share their birthing experiences for an important qualitative study. The study explores the personal, relational, and external factors that contribute to positive hospital birth experiences for Black women.

You may be eligible if you:
✔️ Identify as a Black woman, 18+
✔️ Delivered a child in a U.S. hospital within the past 6 months to 2 years
✔️ Did not experience life-threatening complications
✔️ Are not currently pregnant

Participation involves a one-time audio-only interview. Recruitment is open through January 16, 2027.
