Essential Yoga Practice Of the many things in life that we have a great passion for, two go very well together: doTERRA oils and yoga.

We help new and seasoned yoga students incorporate aromatherapy and Ayurveda into their yoga practice to enhance mind-body-spirit benefits of the practice as well as to deepen awareness and self understanding. The interplay of these two very useful practices lend themselves to a myriad of benefits: physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Some of you reading this may have a greater understanding and experience with using essential oils and some of you may be more connected to your yoga practice. Both are a “practice.” We practice to understand ourselves and our world better, to see where our efforts can be helpful and useful. We practice to learn much more than how to be strong and healthy physically, emotionally and spiritually. We practice to learn to be better human beings everyday, to affect positive change and to make our world a better place. And, as with the idea of what the word practice means, we must work at using these tools consistently, so that we refine what we are able to do and evolve along the way. A good grounding blend of essential oils is typically comprised mostly of tree oils, or bass notes. The blend can include such oils as spruce, ho wood oil, frankincense, blue tansy, and blue chamomile in a base of fractionated coconut oil. An effective grounding blend helps you anchor -- or center yourself -- as it promotes tranquility and a sense of balance.

Think of the steadiness of trees -- how they send roots deeply into the soil for solid anchoring. Tree oils support us as we strive to connect better to Mother Earth below us and open our minds to inspiration from our Higher Power above us. We become a conduit for the energy that flows all around us. What a beautiful way to start the day and open the pathway for additional essential oils.

Happy Fall Equinox from Essential Yoga Practice! As we ease into the Fall, Ayurveda gives us great advice for smooth transitions.

Here are a few of our favorites:
*In your daily practice, work against the dryness of the season by oiling and massaging the body to remove toxins and to nourish the skin with carrier oils like almond oil and coconut oil.
*Depending on your dosha, consider a carrier oil infused with herbs or essential oils like tulsi, lemon grass, lemon eucalyptus and cedarwood.
*Massaging the belly in clockwise fashion to aid healthy digestion/elimination and massage the joints too!
*Incorporate healthy fats into your diet to boost energy.
*And, in your yoga asana practice, give attention to both the mobility and the strengthening of the hips with poses like Baddha Konasana, Bound Angle pose, stabilizing standing poses like Trikonasana, Tree, and Virabhadrasana, Warrior poses.
*Cultivate core strengthening with poses like Salabhasana, Locust pose and Navasana, Boat pose.
*End with a counterbalancing pose like Jathara Parivartanasana, Revolved Stomach pose and a restorative pose like Balasana, Child’s pose, before a longer Savasana, Co**se pose.

Summer is Pitta season in Ayurveda! Pitta is the Energy of Transformation and is influenced by both fire and water elements. Since pittas typically lead an intense, fast-paced lifestyle, grounding and centering practice is a great way to stay focused and keeps pittas from depleting their energy.

Use a Pitta Blend of 4 drops lavender, 4 drops ylang ylang, 6 drops frankincense and 2drops geranium in a 10 ml roller bottle with fractionated coconut oil and roll on wrist points, behind the ears, along the neck, to begin your day, or to recharge. Use during morning meditation, before yoga practice or throughout the day to aid with setting intentions, reviving energy, and to awaken the senses, all great ways to "come present".
