Like most groups, almost everyone on our team has been impacted in some fashion by breast cancer.

This October HBD proudly participated in Breast Cancer Awareness month. We were glad to support our team, our friends, and our loved ones by raising awareness with our beautifully electric pink shirts. And we were also delighted to announce a gift to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

It was both inspiring to see everyone in their shirts throughout the month, and also a humbling reminder of the difficult challenges so many people face each day.

HBD team member, "Miss Jean", recently made headlines for giving back. Checkout this great spotlight on her and all the wonderful work she has done for children in the community. We are very proud of her.

Miss Jean has made and donated thousands of "Happy Duffles" over the years. It's her way of spreading cheer one bag at a time.

This is an amazing and unlikely story: a member of the HBD team recently spoke in front of hundreds of community leaders and sat at a table with the Mayor of Greensboro. Arriving in the US from Pakistan, she spoke no English. Two years later, she has a full-time job, a home, driver's license, and was recently issued a green card. This could not have happened without the incredible and important work of Reading Connections ! She is a wonderful person and we are proud to be a part of her story.

Every bag has a story. Enjoy this short history of the hospital bag.

Hospital bags are bags with a protective flap that inhibits the spread of microbes. They were invented and patented in the 1960’s by the Hartford Self-Closing Bag Co. (HARCO). HARCO’s president, Peggy Baviar, known to everyone as “Peggy B”, was a constant fixture at shows, sticking embroidered bee...
