On February 13–14, there’s a professional conference in Raleigh that directly aligns with the work we do every day at Courageous Journeys Healing Center PLLC advocating for healing, growth, and access to quality mental health care.
As a small, community rooted practice, investing in opportunities like this isn’t always financially possible. However, I deeply believe in the power of showing up in rooms where our community deserves to be represented.
I’m reaching out to see if any agencies, organizations, or larger companies might be open to sponsoring the $399 conference registration in exchange for community representation, visibility, and continued collaboration rooted in shared values.
Your support would help ensure that the voices, experiences, and needs of the people we serve are present in conversations that shape the future of care.
If this resonates with you or if you’d like to explore what sponsorship could look like please feel free to message me directly. Even sharing this post is meaningful support. 💛
Thank you for believing in community healing and the courage it takes to grow together.

2026 check-in… and a gentle truth.
If you’ve been telling yourself
“I’ll deal with it later”
“I should be stronger by now”
“Other people have it worse”
I’m gonna lovingly interrupt you.
That mindset is tired. And it’s costing you peace.
✨ 2026 is a GREAT year to start therapy. ✨
Not because something is “wrong” with you but because you’re done surviving on autopilot.

Therapy in 2026 looks like:
Unlearning patterns that no longer protect you
Saying what you actually feel (without apologizing)
Choosing yourself without guilt
Building emotional muscle, not just coping
Finally resting your nervous system instead of pushing through you don’t have to wait for a breakdown.
You don’t have to hit rock bottom.
You don’t need a dramatic reason to deserve support.
📌 You are allowed to start therapy just because you want better.
If growth is on your 2026 vision board therapy belongs there too.
Save this. Share it. Sit with it.
And when you’re ready… book the session. 💚💛

Emotional Intelligence (EQ) vs Emotional Maturity
Emotional Intelligence = Awareness & Skill
Think of EQ as knowing the map.
It includes:
Identifying emotions (yours and others)
Understanding emotional triggers and patterns
Reading social cues and dynamics
Communicating feelings clearly
Empathy and perspective taking
You can have high EQ and still:
Overreact when triggered
Use emotions to manipulate
Say the “right” things with no follow-through
Be self-aware but behaviorally unchanged
EQ answers: “What is happening emotionally?”

Emotional Maturity = Regulation & Responsibility
Maturity is walking the terrain.
It shows up as:
Regulating before responding
Sitting with discomfort without lashing out
Taking accountability without defensiveness
Repairing harm consistently, not performatively
Choosing long-term integrity over short-term relief
You can be emotionally mature without fancy language, but you cannot be mature without:
Boundaries
Consistency
Behavior change
Accountability

Maturity answers: “What will I do with what I know?”

Anxiety is frequently a control strategy. While a lot of anxiety isn’t fear it’s your brain trying to predict and manage everything so you never feel caught off guard again, essentially your anxiety is trying to protect you from what it sees as harm or discomfort. Hypervigilance can feel super responsible at times, but Suga it’s so exhausting. I know control feels safer than trust, but it costs more long-term. Let go of the control hang on to the regulation!

01/16/2026

Emotional maturity often looks and feels boring. Healthy/healing people don’t get the last word. They don’t overshare. They don’t need to “win” arguments. They disengage quietly and sleep extremely well. If your nervous system is addicted to chaos and drama, peace will feel uncomfortable at first. Oh but baby it's so worth it!

Action Plan: Notice where you confuse intensity with connection. Ask yourself: Do I actually like the feeling of this relationship/friendship or am I just entertained/distracted? Do a friendship/relationship vibe check and come back and tell me what you figured out. Calming comfort or chaotic comfort?

Insight does not equal healing
Knowing why you’re the way you are doesn’t mean you’ve changed it. Insight without behavior change is just intellectual comfort. Growth shows up in what you do differently under stress not what you can explain calmly in therapy.

Action Plan: Pick one pattern you understand well and change one tiny behavior tied to it this week. Let me know how it goes for you. 🫶🏼

As we move into the holiday season a time that can bring both joy and emotional complexity I want to make sure you have the support, clarity, and continuity you need.
Please note our adjusted hours of operation for the upcoming holidays:
• Closed:
Wednesday, December 24 (Christmas Eve)
Thursday, December 25 (Christmas Day)
Friday, December 26 (Day After Christmas)
Wednesday, December 31 (New Year’s Eve)
Thursday, January 1 (New Year’s Day)
• Reopening:
Friday, January 2 We will resume normal business hours and will accommodate rescheduled appointments from Wednesday and Thursday of the New Year Holiday Week.
Scheduling Requests
If you have a session scheduled for Wednesday or Thursday before Christmas, I strongly encourage you to reach out as soon as possible to reschedule for Monday or Tuesday of that week to ensure we get the opportunity to see each other.
These pre-holiday sessions are critical touchpoints to help ensure:
• emotional regulation is steady,
• coping skills feel accessible, and
• you enter seasonal family spaces grounded, prepared, and supported.
Your mental wellness deserves proactive care especially during times when family dynamics, reminders of grief, travel, financial expectations, and traditions can stir things up
A Quick Word on Boundaries & Family Gatherings
This season often comes with the unspoken script of forced hugs, unwanted cheek pinches, or pressure to “be polite.” Consider this your official memo to honor your own boundaries and empower the little ones in your life to do the same.
• No means no even from toddlers, even with family.
• Bodily autonomy is a year round policy, not a seasonal suggestion.
• Protecting your peace is not disrespectful. It’s responsible.
• And supporting a child who says “I don’t want to hug right now” is one of the strongest ways to model emotional safety.
Your comfort matters. Your children’s comfort matters. Boundaries are not barriers they’re bridges to healthier relationships!
If you need to adjust your upcoming appointments or want to schedule in advance of the closures, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly. I look forward to supporting you in navigating this season with confidence, clarity, and compassion.
Warmly,
Camille Dukes Hester, MSW, LCSWA
