RESEARCH Opportunity: Help-seeking for MISOPHONIA - What is your journey? 📍

Help is needed to learn more about the "journey" people with misophonia take when seeking help and the "roadblocks" they may encounter along the way. Dr. Lisa Fox-Thomas at UNC Greensboro is conducting a research study that aims to "map" the help-seeking journey for misophonia to provide better access to services and more support for members of the community moving forward.

You may participate in this research study if you

✔️ are a person over the age of 18 years of age,
✔️ are located in the U.S. and can read/write in English,
✔️ have sought help for yourself or someone else with misophonia, and
✔️ wish to share about journey seeking help

To learn more about the ONLINE survey that is completely ANONYMOUS check out this link: https://bit.ly/3OpBp9z. It is estimated that the survey will take 15 - 20 minutes to complete.

THANK YOU for your help!

Day 5 of Tinnitus Awareness Week 2026! Tinnitus can sound like a ring, buzz, hizz, roar, crickets, or other sound. However, people sometimes use other descriptive words when talking to themselves about their tinnitus. Words such as "screech" or "scream and "terrible," or "horrendous" are judgments that are unhelpful when describing tinnitus. What you tell yourself about your tinnitus matters. Your brain will pay MORE attention to your tinnitus if you talk about it in NEGATIVE terms. Pay attention to how you describe your tinnitus and try to use language that is more NEUTRAL. You might find that your tinnitus seems less noticeable over time when it is viewed as less threatening. For other helpful suggestions, contact UNCG Speech and Hearing Center. Day 4 of Tinnitus Awareness Week 2026! Did you know 80% of people with tinnitus also have hearing loss? The hearing loss may or may not impact your communication and could even be at a frequency range that is not typically tested by audiologists. The FIRST STEP in seeking help for tinnitus is to see an audiologist trained in tinnitus for a hearing evaluation. Even if you have been told that you have minimal hearing loss (or none at all), it may be necessary to take a SECOND STEP and address the underlying cause of your tinnitus. UNCG Speech and Hearing Center is here to help you on your tinnitus journey one step at time! ..
