In October 2024, one of our members joined our re-entry program seeking a fresh start. Through temporary housing and continuous advocacy, we worked closely to address challenges and navigate setbacks. When housing issues arose due to unclear rules and external decisions, we ensured their voice was heard, advocating with property managers and re-entry program leaders to keep their record in good standing.

As challenges mounted, including a brief hospitalization, our team remained steadfast. Together, we explored steps to help the member regain stability—reviewing housing rules, ensuring open communication, and connecting them to resources like the Transitions to Community Living (TCL) program. By January 2025, we helped facilitate their TCL assessment, keeping the journey toward permanent solutions on track.

At Sanctuary House, every step forward is a moment that matters.

This year, focus on small, sustainable habits to nurture clarity, purpose, and self-compassion. Summer shares a few practical tips to guide your journey to a healthier mindset in 2025:

✨ 𝑺𝒆𝒕 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒄 𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔: Skip the lofty resolutions. Instead of “I’ll exercise every day,” try “I’ll move my body for 15 minutes three times a week.” Small wins keep you motivated!
✨ 𝑷𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒇𝒖𝒍𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝒅𝒂𝒊𝒍𝒚: Spend 5 minutes focusing on your breath or savoring a single bite of food. Mindfulness is about being present, even in brief moments.

🌟 Staff Spotlight: Andrea Dugan 🌟

Andrea Dugan, our Tailored Care Manager, has been an integral part of our team for the past two years.

Originally from Pittsburgh, she is a proud mom of two boys and a pet lover with one dog and one cat. Beyond her work, Andrea is pursuing her master's degree in social work and is set to graduate in December 2025.

Andrea’s passion for helping others inspired her to join Sanctuary House, where she loves coordinating services for our members and witnessing their growth and evolution over time.

Despite challenges like navigating schizophrenia and losing his home to an electrical fire, Wesley never gave up on his dream of becoming a shoe designer. With strong support from his family and staff at Sanctuary House, Wesley rebuilt his life—earning his associate degree in graphic design from GTCC.

Today, Wesley is thriving! He’s maintaining a job at Saf-Gard, a company that values his skills and dedication while pursuing his bachelor’s degree in graphic design at North Carolina A&T State University, where he’s set to graduate in Spring 2025. Recently, Wesley was selected for the Future Sole PLC program, powered by NIKE—a prestigious opportunity that brings together a diverse group of talented, forward-thinking individuals in design. Through this program, Wesley is furthering his skills and connecting with leaders in the industry, all while living by his inspiring motto: "Walk in my shoes."

We’re proud to be part of Wesley’s incredible story and can’t wait to see all he accomplishes next!
