Holiday boundary season begins — and it’s okay if that brings up mixed emotions.

As we head into November, many people feel torn between wanting to show up for others and needing to protect their own mental and emotional energy. Boundaries aren’t walls; they’re acts of self-respect and clarity.

Here are a few gentle reminders as you navigate the upcoming weeks:

• You are not required to attend every gathering. Choosing rest is a valid plan.
• You can leave early. “I’m so glad I came, and I’m heading out to recharge.”
• A script can make it easier. Try: “I won’t be able to make it, but I hope you have a wonderful holiday.”
• Prep your nervous system. Deep breaths, grounding touch, a moment alone in the bathroom, or stepping outside for fresh air can reset your body quickly.
• Small boundaries are still boundaries. Sitting in a different room, limiting certain topics, or planning recovery time afterward all count.

You deserve a holiday season that protects your peace, honors your values, and supports your well-being.
