Mental Fitness Summer Tip #3: Screen Time
Did you know that most experts agree that children should have two hours (or less!) of screen time per day? While it's easy to lose track of just how long your kiddos have been sitting in front of a screen, regulating their screen time is more than just limiting their exposure, it's also about creating healthy habits around their use of technology.
For example, encouraging your kids and teens to switch between the television, phone, computer, tablet, and gaming system during screen time usage will help to spur them on to a greater variety of interests. And television shows or longer YouTube videos are better choices than prolonged TikTok useage, which has been shown to decrease attention spans in users under 24 years of age.
Additionally, helping kids and teens learn to monitor their own screen time with breaks for physical movement, water, reading, and other activities will help them develop healthy habits for a lifetime.
