Finally after 34 years a ban is in effect, but beware!
You will still need to watch for this highly toxic and carcinogenic ingredient over the next two years. Erythrosine is listed as FD&C Red No. 3 or Red 3 on an ingredients label. Food manufacturers have until Jan. 15, 2027, to reformulate their products and companies which manufacture ingested drugs, such as dietary supplements, will have until January 18, 2028!
Let’s hope this is the beginning of a massive overhaul of the US Food industry and the FDA!

The FDA is finally banning Red 3! The move comes in response to a 2022 color additive petition filed by CSPI and 23 other organizations and prominent scientists calling on the FDA to fully ban the synthetic food dye.

Red 3 has been banned from use in topical drugs and cosmetics since 1990, when the FDA itself determined that the dye causes cancer when eaten by animals. Because the FDA failed to uphold its legal obligation to ban cancer-causing additives, Red 3 remained permitted in foods, supplements, and oral drugs more than 34 years later.
