What is Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS)?
Childhood Apraxia of Speech is a motor speech disorder. This means the brain knows what it wants to say, but has difficulty planning and coordinating the precise movements needed for speech.
Children with CAS may:
• Say the same word differently each time
• Have difficulty imitating sounds
• Struggle to put sounds together
• Appear to “grope” or search for words
• Have clearer automatic phrases than intentional speech
CAS is not caused by muscle weakness. It’s about motor planning — the connection between the brain and the mouth.
The good news? With early, specialized, and consistent speech therapy, children with CAS can make meaningful progress. 💛
At Voices Through Hope, we are passionate about helping children find their voice — one sound at a time.
