Our SOTA member of the week is Sarah Dickey!

Sarah is a first year student who attended undergrad at Penn State and majored in Rehabilitation and Human Services.

She chose OT because it strives to add meaning to peopleโ€™s lives by helping them to participate in the things they love to do and she thinks everyone deserves to live an engaged and meaningful life. Sarah has always loved kids and hopes to work in pediatrics!

In her free time, Sarah likes going to the beach, doing yoga, walking on the greenway, and hanging out with friends!

Our second years practicing some new proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) moves they learned today! The video shows Bilateral symmetrical D1.

Repetition of these diagonal, functional movements in conjunction with therapist cueing and input can help facilitate motor learning in neuro rehab patients - especially when paired with functional activities!

Our SOTA member of the week is Grace!

Grace is a 1st year student who also went to undergrad here at ECU! During her undergrad studies, she majored in Health Services Management.

Grace chose OT as a profession because she wants to serve her community and help people live life to the fullest! She wants to work with children with special needs, cancer patients, or those in memory care. Grace chose these populations because she has learned a lot from these communities - either experiencing the hardships with her family or friends - and hopes to help make a difference within those communities.

In her free time, Grace loves to bake, dance, read her Bible, and spend time with family and friends! ๐Ÿ’œ

Our SOTA member of the week is Kristin Heyward!

Kristin is a 2nd year OT student who went to undergrad at UNC Chapel Hill and majored in Biology and Psychology.

She chose OT because she has seen the hope and empowerment that it instills in others. She is passionate about working with both young and young at heart to promote independence, accessibility, and quality of life.

Kristin is considering working in schools, skilled nursing/subacute, or mental health when she graduates. She hopes that fieldwork will help her make a decision!

In her free time, Kristin likes to go on walks, read, play tennis, and watch Friends. She claims to be a UNC and NC State fan๐Ÿคจ

Fun fact - Kristin is attempting to learn how to bake! She has a huge sweet tooth and decided it would be fun to make her own desserts. So far, she has made pound cake, spiced pecans, and truffles. Homemade chocolate chip cookies are the next goal! ๐Ÿช

Check out some positive experiences happening with our students today! Most importantly - some of the first year students got their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ‘

Our second years role-played patients with Parkinsonโ€™s disease and macular degeneration during lab so that their peers could try out the intervention sessions they worked on all week! โœŒ๏ธ๐Ÿ‘
