Congressman Shomari Figures Visits Regional Medical Center to Discuss Rural Healthcare Needs

Congressman Shomari Figures and members of his team visited Regional Medical Center today, where they were welcomed by hospital staff and local city leaders for a collaborative discussion on the future of rural healthcare.

During their visit, the group toured various areas of the facility, gaining firsthand insight into both the challenges and the promising opportunities that lie ahead for healthcare in rural communities. From workforce shortages to infrastructure needs, the conversation centered around solutions and support for sustaining quality care in smaller markets like ours.

We are grateful to Congressman Figures and his staff, as well as Mayor Dexter McLendon, for their commitment to boots-on-the-ground engagement and advocacy. Their willingness to listen, learn, and work alongside our dedicated team of healthcare leaders is vital in the pursuit of meaningful progress for rural healthcare systems across Alabama.

As we head into the Fourth of July holiday, I want to take a moment to reflect on what it truly means to serve and support our community through the Emergency Room.

This hospital doesn’t just sit in the heart of our county, it is the heart of our county. We’re not just coworkers and caregivers; we’re neighbors, family, and friends. Every single patient who walks through our doors is someone’s loved one, and we take that responsibility seriously, every minute of every day.

Keeping this hospital open and strong means keeping this town and county safe, healthy, and thriving. It means being here no matter the hour, no matter the emergency. It means having an open door and an open heart, ready to provide care, comfort, and hope.

This Fourth of July, we ask you to celebrate smart and celebrate safe. Please:

***Handle fireworks responsibly, better yet, leave it to the professionals.

***Keep grills and open flames supervised at all times.

***Don’t drink and drive! Have a designated driver or call a ride.

***Keep an eye on children around pools, fireworks, and cookouts.

We want your holiday to be full of fun, not fear. While we’re always here if you need us, we hope you don’t. Our goal is not just to treat emergencies but also to help prevent them.

On behalf of our entire ER team: thank you for trusting us, thank you for supporting us, and thank you for being the kind of community worth standing by.

Wishing you a safe and joyful Independence Day!

Alex Marsh, Director of Emergency Services

I would like to thank everyone with Alabama Power for the help and dedication of the electrical upgrades to our hospital yesterday morning. We had several vendors involved to make the upgrades a huge success. Again, thank-you Alabama Power, Lee Electric and Engineered Cooling Services for a job well done…

Kenny McNaughton, Facilities Director.
