Happy International Human Animal Bond Day!

Today, we celebrate the powerful connections we share with animals. It has been a gift to have so many wonderful animal companions through the years. Today I'd like to highlight my sweet Calamity Jane. While she doesn’t join me in sessions, Jane teaches my clients (and me!) the importance of self-compassion—something we can all learn from our pets.

Here’s to all the animals who connect, who comfort, who remind us of our worth. Thank you for your unconditional love.

Mental Illness Awareness Week is about reducing stigma and reminding ourselves that mental health is health. Taking even one step toward support can open doors to new ways of coping and connecting.

Sometimes progress comes through small, steady sessions. Sometimes it comes through an intentional reset like an EMDR intensive. Both paths are valid — what matters most is knowing you’re not alone.

September is Su***de Prevention Month. While awareness matters, awareness alone is not enough. Su***de prevention requires systems that support safety, belonging, and hope. Every person deserves to live in a world where resources are accessible and communities are prepared to respond with compassion.
Eliot reminds me daily that presence is powerful. And prevention must extend beyond individual presence into the systems we create together.

For me, National Service Dog Month is deeply personal. Eliot is my service dog, and his partnership has changed my life. Service dogs are not pets. They are highly trained medical and accessibility supports. They grant freedom and dignity to people living with disabilities.

To all service dog handlers and their extraordinary canine partners: your work is seen, respected, and honored. May this month be a reminder to us all that accessibility, belonging, and dignity are not optional. They are human rights.
