March is National Kidney Month ๐
Did you know your childโs kidneys play an important role in keeping them healthy?
Kidneys help:
โข Control fluid levels in the body
โข Filter waste and toxins from the blood
โข Regulate blood pressure
Kidney disease in children is fairly rare, affecting about 0.5% of children in the U.S., but it can happen. Conditions like severe UTIs, high blood pressure, and kidney stones can lead to kidney problems. Some children are even born with kidneys that develop differently or donโt function normally.
Our patient Emma is one of the many children living with a kidney condition called polycystic kidney disease (PKD), a genetic condition where clusters of cysts develop in the kidneys. Stories like Emmaโs help remind us why awareness and early care matter.
Simple ways to keep kidneys healthy:
๐ง Drink plenty of water
๐ฅฆ Eat healthy foods low in fats and sugars
Healthy habits now help support healthy kidneys for years to come. ๐
