Eastern North Carolina Donor Impact Project is a grant supported program under the umbrella of the Total Christian Ministries, Inc. ,
501 (c) 3, a nonprofit organization. The Total Christian Ministries, Inc.’s (TCM) mission is to provide for the charitable and educational enhancement of individuals, families and communities in our city, region and beyond. Our vision is to provide for the establishment and promotion of programs to promote family development, affordable housing, medical needs, diverse prevention and health promotion for individuals, families and communities throughout our area. There continues to be a disparity between those populations that are in need of organs in the minority community and those registering with the North Carolina Donor Registry. Cultural myths and a lack of education tend to present barriers to increasing the number of donors. ENCDIP is committed to dispelling those myths and educating the African American and Latino communities as well as the community at-large about the need and benefits of more persons becoming organ donors. Our targeted counties are Pitt and Edgecombe counties, but we encourage anyone regardless of where you live to be an organ donor. North Carolina tends to be a state that has a great need for organs and has a waiting list of over 3800 persons needing organs disproportionately due to chronic kidney disease and cardiovascular disease in this region. Targeted activities include launching a media campaign in Pitt and Edgecombe counties, focused high school days at the high schools in Pitt and Edgecombe counties highlighting Facebook, increasing support for pre-planning education with funeral directors and/or ministers regarding organ donation and reaching congregations through on-site education and collaborative efforts with health fairs, congregational gatherings and other avenues and local events. April is National Donor Awareness Month as well as there is Minority Donor Week in August and Donor Sabbath weekend in November.
