Her influence helped create new standards, governing audiometry, that are used today. Who watched the Oscars this week? 💙 We loved Marlee Matlin's recognition, when Lynette Howell Taylor, the President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, noted her work as a trailblazer in championing the innovation of captioning technology. Matlin signed ILY to the audience and expressed gratitude.

In 2025, Matlin accepted an honorary Oscar that recognized individuals who have developed and supported captioning technology, whether open or closed, for film. The actress has long advocated for captioning during the pre-ADA era.
