What an incredible time we had at the 2026 Together SC Nonprofit Summit in Greenville! 🌟

Nonprofit leaders from across South Carolina gathered to connect, network, and learn from one another, all with a shared mission of strengthening our organizations and the communities we serve.

Events like this remind us that when nonprofits come together to share ideas, build relationships, and support one another, our collective impact grows stronger for our communities.

We’re especially proud of our Homes of Hope President, Dawn Dowden, who also served as the summits Co-Chair and our directors (Kelly, Scott, & Steve) who led an impactful session on leadership. They represented Homes of Hope and our beautifully woven community well.

Together, we’re building stronger nonprofits and stronger communities. 💚💙

Meet Amber, Property Manager ✨

In honor of Black History Month, we’re celebrating the voices and leadership of the incredible professionals who shape Homes of Hope every day. 🖤

❤️What does Black History Month mean to you personally?

"Black History Month is a time to honor the strength, resilience, and contributions of Black people—past and present. It’s about recognizing the struggles we’ve faced, celebrating the progress made, and continuing to push for equity and justice. Black history is American history, and it deserves to be acknowledged, respected, and taught year-round, not just in one month." 🤎

💛What keeps you grounded in this work?

"Knowing that what I do actually matters keeps me grounded. I help people find homes, stay stable, and feel supported. Thinking about the families and individuals who depend on me reminds me why I stay focused, even on hard days. My faith, values, and desire to do things the right way keep me centered and committed." 💛

💚What message would you share with the next generation?

"Believe in yourself, even when the world tries to limit you. Know your worth, and don’t let anyone define your ceiling. Work hard, stay focused, and stay rooted in your values. Protect your character, build your skills, and remember that where you come from doesn’t determine where you’re going—you do!"🌱

Meet Carlton, Maintenance Manager ✨

In honor of Black History Month, we’re celebrating the voices and leadership of the incredible professionals who shape Homes of Hope every day. 🖤

❤️What does Black History Month mean to you personally?

"Black History Month is an opportunity to honor our forebears who sacrificed their lives and peace in the struggle against oppression, helping to secure the peace and opportunities I have today.

I am profoundly grateful for the strength, resilience, and creativity passed down through generations — ingenuity that transformed what was created for survival into essentials we still rely on today. I take pride in maintaining that creativity, a legacy passed down from my grandfather and the pillars of my family."🤎

💛What keeps you grounded in this work?

"My faith in the Lord and my gratitude for the opportunities He has provided anchor me. That gratitude shows up in doing my work with excellence — whether it’s making a resident’s day better, putting a smile on a coworker’s face, or completing tasks with precision and integrity.

It is about serving as an asset rather than a liability. All efforts are made in honor of the Lord." 🙏🏾

💚What legacy do you hope to leave through your work?

"I hope to leave a legacy rooted in sincere care for the people I serve. My desire is that the level of excellence and commitment I bring will be maintained — and even surpassed — by those who come after me. While I am committed to improving lives, I also take pride in upholding the reputation of Homes of Hope." 🏡

Meet Dr. Keona Prude, Grants & Communications Manager ✨

In honor of Black History Month, we’re celebrating the voices and leadership of the incredible professionals who shape Homes of Hope every day. 🖤

❤️What does it mean to be a Black professional in this space?

"To be a Black professional in this space means I carry legacy and responsibility at the same time. As a little Black girl from Compton, CA, I understood the intersectionality of my identity early on. Therefore, my professionalism exists for the versions of me who experienced housing insecurity, unemployment, grief, and the weight of raising two children while trying to hold everything together.

I understand systems because I have navigated them. I understand instability because I have lived it. I do not just show up with credentials. I show up with lived experience, compassion, strategy, and excellence." 🤎

💛Why is the work we do at Homes of Hope meaningful to you?

"Housing is not just a structure. It is stability, dignity, and safety. It is the difference between surviving and thriving.

There were seasons in my life where stability was uncertain. I know what it feels like to be unemployed and still have two children looking at you as their source of security. So when we build homes and create pathways to stability, I do not see numbers. I see mothers exhaling. I see children sleeping peacefully. I see futures shifting. And that is the beautiful mural that we paint as a community." 🏡💛

💚Who has inspired you most?

"Black women inspire me. Every single one who has crossed my path. The women who held things together when resources were limited but love was abundant. The women who showed me that faith, education, and grit could coexist. The women in my family, the women in my church, the women of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. And honestly, the Black women who move through life quietly carrying burdens no one sees inspire me daily.

Their resilience reminds me that I come from strength. And that strength lives in me." 🌸

Meet TJ, Compliance Manager ✨

In honor of Black History Month, we’re celebrating the voices and leadership of the incredible professionals who shape Homes of Hope every day. 🖤

What does Black History Month mean to you personally?

"It’s a great joy to learn about Black contributors and see the advancements that have been made because of them. While it can sting that this is often the only month those contributions are highlighted, it is still a privilege to know we’ve had a hand in just about everything." 🤎

What does “hope” look like in your own words?

"Hope is the drive and initiative to keep pushing despite the circumstances in your way. There will be barriers and hurdles to maneuver, because access is not granted easily. But hope keeps you moving forward." 💪🏾

Who has inspired you most?

"My late grandfather, John G. Terrell. He instilled in us the will to work hard and take care of our responsibilities. I still remember him telling me, ‘Learn all you can and can all you learn.’ It was his country way of saying learn what you can and then apply it. Those words still ring true in my ears and heart. I am a continual learner and hope to instill that same drive in my children and future generations." 🤍

Meet Kelly, Portfolio Manager for the Housing & Property Management Department ✨

In honor of Black History Month, we’re celebrating the voices and leadership of the incredible professionals who shape Homes of Hope every day.

❤️What does it mean to be a Black professional in this space?

"Representation matters. I serve and interact daily with people who look like me—many seeking a second chance, stability, or someone who believes in them. I want our residents and community to see what is possible through my example.

My journey was not easy, and that allows me to connect authentically. I strive to lead with professionalism, integrity, and warmth—motivating, encouraging, and restoring hope. If I can bring a smile to someone who felt they had no reason to smile, then I know I am walking in purpose."

💛How does her work make a difference?

"Excellence and humanity can coexist. We can operate as a team that feels like family while maintaining high standards and accountability.

I am committed to building strong systems that will outlive me—creating sustainability, stability, and impact for generations to come."

💚Who inspires her most?

"My father. He was a single father who worked tirelessly to provide for us. His dedication shaped who I am. Though he has passed, I carry his words with me every day and strive to live in a way that honors him."

Her message to the next generation:

"Do not let the world steal your innocence. Trust in the Lord—He makes no mistakes. Stand firm in who you are, embrace being different, and never be afraid to walk your own path. Purpose and strength are often born from adversity."
