When your daughter is being critical of her body, help her pause and ask:

“Would you say that to a friend?”

Chances are, she sees all the beauty, kindness, intelligence, and strength in others—so encourage her to extend the same grace to herself.

And if you catch yourself being critical of your body, try it on yourself too. The way you talk to yourself matters—she’s listening.

💬 Have you ever tried this with your daughter? Share your experience in the comments.

Research shows that when it comes to body image—even in extreme cases like eating disorders—the biggest influence isn’t social media or culture. It’s the mother. 💜

That’s why Dr. Melisa Holmes, co-founder of Girlology, reminds us: you are your daughter’s biggest influencer.

Diet culture can sneak into schools in ways that hurt kids’ confidence and relationship with food.

When lessons about “health” focus on weight, label foods as good or bad, or require BMI tracking, they can increase body dissatisfaction and even trigger eating disorders—no matter a child’s size.

Research shows these programs don’t work and can cause harm.

As a parent, you have the right to:
✔ Ask questions about health and nutrition lessons
✔ Opt out of harmful assignments or weigh-ins
✔ Speak up if the messaging feels biased or shaming

Has your child ever brought home a school health lesson that concerned you? Share your experience in the comments.

From fitness tests and PE weigh-ins to the way food is discussed in the classroom, diet culture can sneak into schools in ways that hurt kids more than help them.

Sometimes, lessons about “health” are taught through a weight-centric, fat-phobic lens, or with outdated ideas like BMI reporting, calorie tracking, and labeling foods as “good” or “bad.”

Research shows these practices don’t work and can actually cause harm—leading to shame, stigma, and even eating disorders.

As a parent, you can:
✔ Ask questions about the school’s health curriculum
✔ Opt out of harmful assignments
✔ Stay aware of how food, health, and body size are discussed

Have you ever had to address a school health lesson with your child? Share your experience in the comments.
