This time of year we see a big increase in “tech neck.” More time indoors + more screen time = more strain on your neck and upper spine.

That forward head posture can lead to:
• Tension headaches

Shoveling can be a great workout! With few opportunities to do it in the South, you might be prone to injury. Here are some tips to protect yourself:

❄️S T R E T C H before & after to prepare your muscles for the workout
❄️ avoid lifting snow - push it to the sides
❄️ use a smaller shovel to avoid overloading
❄️ lift with your legs (not your back)
❄️ do not twist and lift - it adds stress to your discs. Instead, perform any motion in a linear fashion
❄️ hydrate, hydrate, hydrate
❄️ take breaks
❄️dress in warm layers that offer maximum movement

So, you found a sled and now you're planning an adventure! Dr Kevin P Lewis, Dad of 6, shares his best tips for keeping your kiddos (and you) safe:

🛷always stay with your young child(ren)
🛷avoid steep inclines because they may create out-of-control speeds leading to injury
🛷select clear spaces without trees, brush or rocks
🛷 sit upright with your feet in front of you or tucked under your hips (avoid laying down prone)
🛷always take the hill facing forward
🛷 consider wearing a helmet, even a bicycle helmet will offer protection from head injury

An estimated 20,000 sledding injuries happen annually - especially fractures, strains and back pain. It can take hours or days after an injury to feel pain. Take breaks! If you feel back discomfort, try a warm bath with Epsom salt, sleep on a harder surface, and see your favorite chiropractor to address the cause of your pain.

Olaf, Lilibet, Stella Maris, and Faustina threw off their blankets and completed some donkey zoomies in fresh ice/snow. Meanwhile, "Big Red" and "Little Red" (oldest + youngest) took full advantage of the white stuff with zero hesitation and maximum joy. Cold noses, red cheeks, loud laughter, and a lot of slipping-and-sliding fun all around.

🧊 Good chiro advice for ice & snow:

-Take short steps and slow it down—no rushing.
- Keep hands out of pockets to help with balance (yes, really).

Today is Law Enforcement Appreciation Day! At Greenville Spine Institute, this day is deeply personal.

Both Dr. Kevin P. Lewis, Clinic Director, and Dr. Joseph Pelicano, Associate Chiropractor, are former members of law enforcement. While their uniforms have changed, their calling to serve and protect has not.

For Dr. Lewis, that calling was forged through experience. Injured in the line of duty, he faced a potentially life-altering spinal surgery. Through chiropractic care, he was able to heal and avoid a serious, limiting outcome—an experience that changed the course of his life and led him to become a chiropractor, dedicated to helping others protect their health, mobility, and quality of life.

Today, both doctors continue serving our community in a new way—
✔️ Protecting spines
✔️ Restoring movement
✔️ Supporting the long-term health of those who serve others

We consider it a true honor to care for our community—and especially for our law enforcement officers and first responders who give so much every day.
