Here at our GAP community partner, Jasmine Road, we have worked alongside members on a group and individual level, focusing on identifying triggers, coping skills, and more through a trauma-informed care lens. Trauma-informed counseling recognizes that your responses make sense in the context of your experiences and allows clients to move at a pace that feels comfortable to them, while prioritizing safety and trust. I have had the privilege to work alongside some of the women from Jasmine Road. In particular with one of my clients, I have been able to see the growth, strength, and resiliency that she encompasses and her determination to succeed, whatever that may look like for her. In addition to walking through her own journey, she has been a source of support for other women in the program as well. This demonstrates the strong connections that are built at Jasmine Road that many of the women will hold onto forever.

Here at our GAP community partner, , we have been teaching the Zones of Regulation concept to their Transitional Living Program. Since August we have been incorporating this concept and teaching skills to help recognize and manage emotions in healthy ways. The concept’s focus this day was sparks and triggers; these are activating events that can elicit welcome or unwelcome emotions. As an individual recognizes their sparks and triggers, they can decrease their likelihood of losing control of their emotions and increase their ability to react in more mindful, constructive ways. These pictures illustrate the group’s discussion of the concept and the writing activity of naming individualized sparks and triggers. Our persistent work with the Transitional Living Program has allowed us to provide the group members with concepts that work to maintain emotional regulation, as well as tools used for coping during acute, stressful circumstances.
