February & March Rockstar Award Winners

Each month, we recognize team members who go above and beyond through our Rockstar Award program. As a reminder, winners are selected for their impact during a given month and recognized the following month at Town Hall.

Due to construction in the Camellia Room, we were unable to hold a Town Hall in March, but we’re excited to recognize both our February (presented in March) and March (presented in April) Rockstar Award winners together:

February (recognized in March):
Christie Johnson

March (recognized in April):
Pam Reeves
Drew Flight

Christie Johnson from Housekeeping was recognized for her tireless work ethic and her constant willingness to go above and beyond. She is known not only for the quality of her work, but for the way she shows up for others: always offering help to both residents and fellow team members, and taking the time to greet and welcome everyone she encounters. While her nomination highlighted these qualities, they are simply a reflection of the consistency and care she brings to her role each day.

Pam Reeves has made an immediate and lasting impact in her role on the Marketing team. In just a short time, she has elevated communication, streamlined processes, and taken full ownership of the move-in experience, from walkthroughs and estimates to coordinating closings and planning events of all sizes. Her nomination spoke to the difference she has already made, but more importantly, to the trust and confidence she brings to her team every day through her leadership, creativity, and follow-through.

Drew Flight, also from Housekeeping, was recognized for being a dependable, hardworking team member who is always willing to lend a hand. His kindness and helpful attitude do not go unnoticed, and while his nomination highlighted these traits, they are part of the steady, positive presence he brings to the community on a daily basis.

Christie, Pam, and Drew: thank you for everything you do. Your dedication, attitude, and consistency are what make The Woodlands such a special place to live and work.

Today’s Annual Spring Employee Appreciation Luncheon, hosted by our residents, was a powerful reminder of what makes this community so special. When you invest in building and supporting a great team, you create an environment where appreciation flows both ways.

Our residents took the time to prepare homemade desserts, serve our staff, and express their gratitude in person. It’s a reflection of the relationships our team builds every day through compassion, consistency, and care.

We are exceptionally grateful to the amazing team that makes the Woodlands at Furman such a wonderful place to live.

Hope everyone is having a hoppy Monday!

Last week, we had an egg-stra special morning on the Assisted Living lawn as our friends from Furman University Child Development Center joined us for a joyful Easter egg hunt!

The Easter Bunny brought us a big haul, and with over 400 eggs hidden and ready to be discovered, the excitement was contagious.

After the hunt, the kids treated us to a few sweet songs that brought plenty of smiles. As always, our Furman connection keeps us young in many ways, and bringing joy to the young ones never fails to put smiles on our faces.

Cheers to William McDonald!

After more than 7 years of dedication, hard work, and countless behind-the-scenes saves, we’re celebrating a very special milestone for someone who has meant so much to our community: William McDonald is stepping into a well-earned (semi!) retirement.

As a Maintenance Technician III, William has been part of The Woodlands family since the days of fearless leader Rick Brackett leading Plant Operations, and his impact can be felt in every corner of our campus. Known for his friendly smile and demeanor, can-do attitude, and great big bushy beard, William has been a steady, trusted presence for residents and team members alike.

Yesterday we showed our appreciation for William with a sweet going away party filled with smiles, hugs, and delicious brownies.

Your craftsmanship and the care you’ve shown has had an impact on every person and place you’ve touched. You're part of what makes the Woodlands great. Enjoy your well-earned retirement.

Stronger, Smarter, Energized!

The Camellia Room was buzzing this week as residents and staff came together for our Annual Wellness Fair. From balance and strength to heart health, vision, and nutrition, each station offered a hands-on way to learn more about we can all take care of our bodies as they age. A huge thanks to the students from North Greenville University for guiding us through it all with energy and expertise!

And of course, we didn’t stop at screenings… once everyone got their stats, it was time to move! Furman Athletics brought the fun outdoors with patio games and activities that had everyone laughing, cheering, and maybe even discovering a competitive streak or two.

We’re also grateful for our amazing community partners: Prisma Health, Functional Pathways, Interim HealthCare, and our very own Woodlands team. Thank you all for once again sharing your resources and helping make wellness feel approachable, empowering, and enjoyable.

🍀 Shamrock Shenanigans! 🍀

The Camellia Room turned a little more Irish (and a lot more lively) this St. Patrick’s Day! From live music by Lori & Ted to Guinness in hand and plates full of delicious bites, our residents fully embraced the spirit of spring.

Green was the color of the day, and good times were everywhere you looked! Residents gathered for an afternoon filled with music, laughter, and just the right amount of Irish cheer.

Between the charcuterie, spinach artichoke dip, and those dangerously good mini cheesecake parfaits… we’re not saying anyone went back for seconds… but we’re also not not saying that.

We're very lucky to be here at the Woodlands. And if you're not here... try not to be too green with envy. 😎

🌹 Legacy of Love 2026 – An Evening That Gave Back 🌹

What a night. Truly.

The 5th Annual Legacy of Love brought together everything that makes The Woodlands so special: beautiful music, incredible food, and a community that shows up for one another in meaningful ways.

Highlights from the Evening:
Madeleine and Company filled the room with stunning live music, setting the tone for an elegant and heartfelt gathering
From mini beef wellingtons to a cherries jubilee station (yes, it was as good as it sounds), the culinary experience was unforgettable
Most importantly, we came together to support two causes close to home: the Bruce Brown & Lynne Shackelford Internship Fund and our Staff Hardship Fund

This night was about impact. About investing in our team, supporting future opportunities, and taking care of our own.

To everyone who attended, contributed, and made the evening what it was: thank you. You are what makes this community extraordinary.

An Afternoon of Music and Familiar Faces!

Residents recently enjoyed a special performance from the talented musicians of the Furman Symphony Orchestra, who transformed the Camellia Room into an intimate chamber music experience. With seating arranged around the ensemble, guests got an “insider’s view” of what it feels like to perform inside an orchestra.

The program featured stunning works by Andrea Casarrubios, Gustav Holst, and Ralph Vaughan Williams, brought to life under the direction of Dr. Stephan Fillare, Director of Orchestral Activities at Furman.

But of course, the highlight for many residents was seeing one of our own on stage!

Anabelle Buxbaum—former beloved Woodlands intern and now beloved Lifestyles Assistant—played violin, earning plenty of proud smiles from the residents who know her well. It’s not every day you get to watch someone who brightens your day also shine on stage.

Moments like this are a perfect reminder of what makes life at The Woodlands at Furman so special. As one of only two certified University-Based Retirement Communities in the country, our connection with Furman means residents don’t just live near the arts: they get to live the experience every day. From concerts like this to countless collaborations with students and faculty, the next generation of artists and leaders is right here in our community.

Music, culture, connection… and a standing ovation for Anabelle. 👏

February Wrap-Up

Just a few of the moments we didn’t want to miss:

🌿 A nature walk at Conestee Nature Preserve (followed by lunch, of course).
🏛 A private tour of the historic Spring Park Inn in Travelers Rest.
✈️ Vintage planes and a guided tour at the Western North Carolina Air Museum.
🎶 Jazz concerts, bluegrass nights, and an inspiring Greenville Chorale performance at Furman.
🎭 Mardi Gras beads, king cake, and New Orleans–style jazz for Fat Tuesday.
🏈 A Super Bowl watch party with neighbors, snacks, and plenty of spirited debate.
🥂 Welcoming the Greenville Area Parkinson Society for a happy hour gathering.
🏃‍♀️ And a huge shoutout to resident Suki Wong for completing the Greenville Half Marathon on the Swamp Rabbit Trail — which just so happens to run right alongside our campus. Casual. 💪

Arts. Culture. History. Music. Movement. Community.

This is what staying young looks like.

More fun stuff coming soon!

January & February Rockstar Award Winners

We’re proud to recognize four outstanding team members as our January and February 2026 Rockstar Award recipients:

January:
Heather Wall
Te’Andre Bivings-Woodruff

February:
Jeanne Chestnut
Madison Arrowood

Heather Wall, Assistant Director of Connections, was honored for her steadfast advocacy and leadership in resident engagement. The Connections program is central to our holistic approach to wellness, ensuring residents experience purpose, belonging, and meaningful interaction. During a particularly busy season, Heather has been an invaluable support to Valerie, Director of Connections, helping maintain continuity, quality, and compassion across the program.

Te’Andre Bivings-Woodruff was nominated by residents for his professionalism, attention to detail, and respectful service while completing maintenance projects. One resident specifically highlighted his careful workmanship and thorough clean-up, but those details are just one example of the steady pride and courtesy he brings to every task. His approach consistently reinforces the trust our residents place in our team.

Jeanne Chestnut was recognized for delivering exceptional service during the recent snowstorm weekend, ensuring dining operations remained smooth and welcoming despite challenging conditions. Her positive attitude and reliability provided comfort and stability when it was needed most. That weekend stood out, but her warmth, consistency, and strong work ethic are evident long before and long after the snow melts.

Madison Arrowood was acknowledged for her calm and decisive response during an emergency situation, successfully utilizing her LifeVac training. In a moment that required preparedness and composure, she delivered, as she always does.

Heather, Te’Andre, Jeanne, and Madison: thank you for representing the very best of The Woodlands. These honors are well deserved, and your daily commitment does not go unnoticed.

The Woodlands: Where Flavor Lives🔥🌶️

We had the Camellia room simmering for our 4th Annual Chili Cook-Off, where residents and staff brought fire, flavor, and fun, and left with full bellies.

Of the twelve competitors, this year’s bragging rights (and cash prizes) went to:

🥇 Bob McCormack, securing his second 1st place win and his third consecutive top-three finish. At this point, we may need to check his crockpot for magic.
🥈 Charmaine Seguro, our new Director of Wellness, who kept the tradition thriving after it was originally sparked by former Director of Wellness Marissa McFarland. Turns out leadership pairs well with chili powder.
🥉 John Hight, bringing the flavor and landing a well-earned spot in the top three.

At The Woodlands, we believe life should always have a little flavor, a little kick, a little something that keeps things interesting.

See you this time next year; bring you spoon and your game face! 🏆
