The Woodlands: Where Flavor Lives🔥🌶️

We had the Camellia room simmering for our 4th Annual Chili Cook-Off, where residents and staff brought fire, flavor, and fun, and left with full bellies.

Of the twelve competitors, this year’s bragging rights (and cash prizes) went to:

🥇 Bob McCormack, securing his second 1st place win and his third consecutive top-three finish. At this point, we may need to check his crockpot for magic.
🥈 Charmaine Seguro, our new Director of Wellness, who kept the tradition thriving after it was originally sparked by former Director of Wellness Marissa McFarland. Turns out leadership pairs well with chili powder.
🥉 John Hight, bringing the flavor and landing a well-earned spot in the top three.

At The Woodlands, we believe life should always have a little flavor, a little kick, a little something that keeps things interesting.

See you this time next year; bring you spoon and your game face! 🏆

How did that song get stuck in your head?

That simple question sparked a fascinating afternoon in the Camellia Room as residents welcomed David Sims, Executive Director of the Sigal Music Museum, for a lively lecture on musical imagery and memory. Together, we explored how the brain remembers melodies, why certain notes linger long after the music stops, and how legendary composers like Beethoven could continue to “hear” and compose music even after losing their hearing.

As one of Greenville’s most respected cultural institutions, Sigal Music Museum is known for bringing music to life through world-class concerts, interactive exhibits, and engaging educational programs. Through our growing partnership, we’re proud to welcome Sigal’s musicians, historians, and thought leaders right here to the Woodlands, connecting residents directly to the vibrant arts and music scene happening across Greenville.

At the Woodlands, staying young means staying curious. By staying engaged in education, the arts, and the people shaping our local community, we continue to prove that lifelong learning and creativity never go out of style. 🎼✨

Confetti, cheers, and a fantastic way to ring in the New Year!

Our Confetti & Cheers New Year’s Eve Party in the Camellia Room was one to remember. From dancing early in the evening with DJ Sean, to live music from Ted & Lori McClellan, and back to the dance floor to close out the night, the room was full of energy, laughter, and great company.

With delicious shared dishes, plenty of hors d’oeuvres, and a celebratory toast or two, residents truly rang in the New Year in style. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the evening so warm, lively, and memorable.

Here’s to a joyful year ahead at The Woodlands at Furman. 🥂🎉

From our family to yours, happy new year!

’Tis the Season!

The past few weeks at The Woodlands have been filled with music, laughter, tradition, learning, and a whole lot of holiday spirit. From shopping local at our One Stop Holiday Shop to sharing timeless music with friends from Furman University and the greater Greenville community, this season has been one of connection and celebration.

We’ve enjoyed festive concerts, caroling, and joyful performances in our own spaces, as well as special outings just down the road to experience beloved seasonal traditions together. Our residents gathered for markets, cookie exchanges, holiday parties, and evenings of great food, conversation, and cheer. We also made space for reflection and learning, and throughout the season we proudly honored Hanukkah with nightly menorah lightings, celebrating the traditions that make our community so rich and inclusive.

Whether it was hearing familiar carols, welcoming Santa, supporting local artists and vendors, laughing at a holiday comedy, or simply spending time together with neighbors and friends, each moment added to the warmth of the season.

As we head into the final days of the holidays, we wish everyone a Merry Christmas, a Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Holidays from all of us at The Woodlands. Thank you for making this such a meaningful and memorable season.

A Woodlands Winter Wonderland with the Furman University Symphonic Band

Our community was treated to a holiday spectacular this week as the Furman University Symphonic Band brought Sounds of the Holidays to the Camellia Room. Under the direction of Dr. Sue Samuels and Dr. David Stanley, residents enjoyed festive favorites like Sleigh Ride, A Christmas Festival, Feliz Navidad, All I Want for Christmas Is You, and more.

For more than 100 years, Furman’s Symphonic Band has been a showcase of musical excellence, made up of students from across campus and known for performances that inspire audiences nationwide. Having them perform here at The Woodlands is a beautiful reminder of our special partnership with Furman University as one of only two Certified University Based Retirement Communities in the country.

Moments like these highlight the joy, learning, and intergenerational connection that make life at The Woodlands truly stand out.

✨ Thank you, Furman musicians! You make every season brighter!
