Substance Use Disorder (SUD) affects millions across the United States, highlighting the urgent need for effective treatment and support. According to the 2022 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, nearly 46.3 million people (16.5% of the population) had a substance use disorder in the past year. Among these individuals, 29.5 million struggled with alcohol use disorder, while 24 million experienced substance use disorders. Despite the prevalence, only about 6% of those with SUD received specialized treatment in 2022.
At Crossroads, we are committed to addressing this gap by providing comprehensive, evidence-based care tailored to individual needs. Find out more about us at https://hubs.ly/Q02-1RmF0. #addiction #addictiontreatment #recovery #recoveryispossible

Did you know that 75% of people who experience substance use disorder (SUD) recover? This inspiring statistic, reported by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), shows that recovery is not only possible - it's probable with the right support.
Yet, fewer than 10% of those struggling with SUD receive the treatment they need. Barriers like stigma, limited access to care, and social inequities often prevent people from getting help.
It's time to change the narrative. By prioritizing evidence-based treatment like MAT, harm reduction tools, and community support, we can ensure more people have the opportunity to thrive in recovery. Today is World No Tobacco Day, a day celebrated by the World Health Organization (WHO) to inform the public on the dangers of tobacco. This year’s theme is “Grow Food, Not Tobacco,” because the WHO is trying to get governments around the world to end subsidies for growing tobacco and encourage farmers to substitute other crops in its place.
Tobacco is grown in over 124 countries, taking up land that could be used to grow crops to feed millions of people, driving down food insecurity.
One of the ways to help the WHO achieve this goal is to cut the demand for tobacco products. Crossroads offers smoking cessation programs in most of our centers to help our patients successfully quit their smoking habits. Either call 866-741-2326 or ask a Crossroads team member for more information.

Happy Memorial Day!!
Today is a reminder of the sacrifices made by countless brave men and women who fought for our freedom and the well-being of our nation. Let’s take a moment to honor those who lost their lives while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.
As we celebrate the unofficial beginning of summer with family and friends, let's also take the time to prioritize our health and well-being. The Crossroads family is here for you, and we hope that this Memorial Day is a meaningful and restful day for all.

We’d like to tell you about Brookley Lowe, a counselor in our Independence, KY center. Her teammates describe her as a “true inspiration.”
Here’s what one of them said about her:
“Brookley is one of a kind. On a daily basis, she is always encouraging others (patients AND staff) to do better for themselves. Brookley is so respectful and kind that patients have made comments about how great of a counselor she is. Brookley is the glue that holds this clinic together.”
Thank you, Brookley for all you do and bringing your best to work with you every day. We couldn’t save lives without you!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month
Mental health is a growing concern in America, and it’s more common than you might think. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), 1 in 5 adults in the US experience mental illness.
Did you know that Substance Use Disorder is a mental disorder? People with SUD often struggle with other mental health disorders. This is why Crossroads focuses on treating the whole person, not just the addiction.

Today is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day!
The CDC estimates that over 107,000 Americans died as the result of a drug overdose last year – that’s an American dying of a drug overdose every five minutes.
This is why the DEA has organized events around the country during National Prescription Drug Take Back Days in April and October. They provide easy, no-cost opportunities to dispose of medicines stored in the home that are susceptible to abuse and theft.
Last year alone, more than 720,000 pounds of prescription medication were collected at 5144 sites, nationwide.

March is Women’s History Month, and we’d like to tell you about our Women in the Workplace (WIW) group. Designed to represent and support women – both at Crossroads and in our communities, WIW strives to bridge the gaps between all women while inspiring them to seek higher achievements and thrive in tomorrow’s challenges.
WIW has held several events, including a happy hour so Crossroads ladies can get to know each other better, an empowered presentation from an area speaker, and a Winter Wonderland Gala. The Gala raised more than $10,000 for Safe Harbor, a charity in Greenville, SC that helps women impacted by domestic abuse.

Developed in 1959, Fentanyl was approved by the Food and Drug Administration as a potent, synthetic opioid drug used to treat severe pain.
Pharmaceutical fentanyl is commonly prescribed for patients undergoing painful surgeries and for those facing advanced-stage cancers. It was once hard to find on the streets – but not anymore.
Because it’s inexpensive and hard to detect, illegally manufactured fentanyl is causing a sharp increase in overdose deaths. It can be used to cut various street drugs, such as heroin and other opioids.

Harm reduction strategies aim to lessen the harms associated with drug use and related behaviors that increase the risk of HIV infection. Sharing needles and syringes raises the risk of blood-borne HIV transmission.
Organizations that offer needle exchanges and free testing for diseases such as Hepatitis and HIV/AIDS follow a harm reduction strategy in that they also offer peace of mind to the communities they serve.

Over the holidays, Crossroads associates found many ways to give back to the communities we serve. Members of our Beaver and Butler, PA staff, led by Care Manager Jessica Rogan, participated in several events hosted by the cities. The first event was The Spirit of Christmas light up the night in Butler, in which Crossroads associates marched in the town Christmas Parade. Afterwards, our associates passed out 400 hotdogs and countless cups of delicious hot cocoa and coffee.
Beaver and Butler associates also participated in Butler’s Breakfast with Santa event. In all, they had close to 50 smiling kids who came to see and have breakfast with Santa.
Associates from these centers are already planning many fun events for 2023, so look for upcoming updates!
