“Grandma, how do you cope with pain?”

“With your hands, honey. If you do it with your mind instead of relieving the pain, it toughens even harder.”

“With your hands grandma?”

“Yes, our hands are the antennae of our soul. If you move them; knitting, cooking, painting, playing or sinking them into the ground, you send care signs to the deepest part of you and your soul lights up because you’re paying attention to it. Then signs of pain will no longer be necessary.”

“Hands are really that important?”

“Yes my daughter. Think of babies: they start to know the world through the touch of their hands. If you look at the hands of old people, they tell you more about their life then any body part.

Everything that is done by hand is said to be done with the heart. Because it’s really like this: hands and heart are connected.

Masseurs know well: when they touch someone with their hands, they create a deep connection. It is precisely from this connection that healing comes. Think of lovers: when they touch their hands, they make love in a more sublime way.”

Be kind to yourself.
And kinder again.

We are sometimes children
thrown from the womb too soon.
But your heart is a mother.

Your name when it calls out to itself
is shelter,
and your touch comfort.

Your embrace turned inwards
is permission.
Permission for pain,
and the relief of its soothing.

You are a healer,
a lover, a staunch friend.
Your body's best advocate.

You are the sensitive antennae
tuned toward home.
The bird's nesting instinct.

You are a boundary setter.
A time keeper -
that rest is a gift savoured.

You are a deep listener to your needs,
a first responder.
A warm blanket.
A peace bringer.

I am sharing this PSA from my cousin. She has a doctorate in pharmacy and works in a major hospital in Dallas. Wearing a mask is NOT a political statement. Wearing a mask is simply a safety measure to help protect you and your friends/ family from getting sick.

My vaccinated (and unvaccinated) friends:
“I encourage you to start masking in public again. We are now starting to see vaccinated employees at my hospital get COVID. While none have been seriously ill, many have symptoms that make them feel pretty bad. Plus you can certainly get COVID and become a “Typhoid Mary” endangering others by transmitting COVID to them. Please mask in public to protect yourself and others. Stay safe friends.”

Re: Manual Lymph Drainage Therapy and “for profit health care.”On Wednesday of this week, my sister-in-law noticed a sudden, localized swelling at the tip of her elbow. Cause unknown. I immediately performed some upper body manual lymph drainage protocols… then we headed to the nearest Urgent Care center. No one there was qualified to drain the fluid on her elbow, so we went to another urgent care. They claimed that it needed to be x-rayed, and they did not have any x-ray equipment, so we were sent to an orthopedic center nearby. While filling out the several pages of paperwork at the third facility we visited, Sis noticed (happily) that the swelling had significantly reduced. Oh, side note that the third medical facility did not want to treat her, because they were not “in network” with her preferred provider Medicare Advantage plan. Now, three days later, there is still no swelling, just bruising from the initial swelling, and she has decided to just follow up with her regular doctor upon returning home. What a way to start a vacation! Glad that I could help her!

I absolutely love the practice of massage therapy ….. especially when a client is so relaxed, during their FIRST EVER therapy session, that they fall asleep on the table! 😄
