February is National Cancer Prevention Month, a time to focus on proactive steps that reduce risk and promote early detection.

Prevention is powerful. While not all cancers are avoidable, research consistently shows that lifestyle choices significantly influence risk. Consider these evidence-based strategies:

πŸ—“οΈ Schedule recommended screenings such as mammograms, colonoscopies, Pap tests, and skin checks based on age and risk factors. Early detection improves outcomes.

πŸ›‘ Avoid to***co in all forms. To***co use remains the leading preventable cause of cancer.

β˜€οΈ Protect your skin by using broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen, wearing protective clothing, and avoiding indoor tanning.

🍽️ Maintain a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains while limiting processed and red meats.

⏱️ Engage in regular physical activity. Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week.

☝🏼 Limit alcohol consumption.

πŸ’‰ Stay up to date on vaccinations such as HPV and Hepatitis B, which can prevent certain cancers.

Awareness actions matter too. Share accurate information. Encourage loved ones to book overdue screenings. Learn your family health history. Support reputable organizations advancing prevention and research.

πŸ’œ Sunday Self-Care πŸ’œ
This week’s self-care practice is:
πŸ…Celebrate Your Wins πŸ…

Celebrating your wins is self care because it strengthens self worth and reinforces progress. Our brains are wired to notice mistakes more than accomplishments. Intentionally acknowledging what went well helps rebalance that pattern and builds resilience, motivation, and confidence.

How to practice celebrating your wins:
βœ… Write down three things you handled well at the end of the day.
βœ… Keep a small β€œwins” journal and review it weekly.
βœ… Share a success with someone you trust.
βœ… Pause and say, β€œI worked hard for that,” when you complete a task.
βœ… Reward yourself with something meaningful, such as time for a hobby or quiet reflection.

Wins do not have to be dramatic. Getting through a hard conversation. Setting a boundary. Finishing paperwork you have been avoiding. Small progress still counts.

☝🏼 What is one win you can acknowledge today?

Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is simply sit with the feeling.

This image is a reminder that emotions are not problems to fix. They are experiences to notice. Allow them without judgment. Name what you’re feeling. Stay present. Get curious about where it shows up in your body. Speak to yourself with compassion instead of criticism.

When we stop labeling emotions as β€œgood” or β€œbad,” we create space for healing.

At Belle Tower Group, we help clients build the skills to tolerate, understand, and move through difficult emotions safely and effectively. What feeling might you need to sit with today?
