Today we closed out Social Worker and Child Life specialist month by having lunch brought in to celebrate our very own. We are so privileged to be able to work alongside such a dedicated team who work tirelessly to support our patients and their families in the most difficult of times. 💛♥️💙
We are also proud to acknowledge our very own Amy Bowers who is being honored with the Ambulatory Care Team management award. A portion of her nomination states “Amy’s empathy, kindness, and dedication strengthens the entire Pediatric Hematology Oncology program. Her contributions extend far beyond individual interactions, as they help shape a culture of compassionate care that benefits patients, families, and staff alike.” Congratulations, Amy! 👏🎉

We ♥️ our Child Life team!!!

March is Child Life Month and we’re celebrating our incredible Child Life team at Prisma Health Children’s Hospital–Upstate. This team is composed of compassionate, highly skilled professionals who make a world of difference for our patients and families every day.

Child Life specialists help children and teens navigate the challenges of illness, injury and hospitalization by making the healthcare experience a little less scary and a lot more hopeful. Through therapeutic play, emotional support, age-appropriate education, and coping strategies, they bring comfort and confidence to children at some of their most vulnerable moments.

Our Child Life team is an essential partner to our doctors, nurses and clinical teams, helping ensure that every child receives not only excellent medical care, but also the emotional support they deserve.

Thank you to our amazing Child Life specialists for all you do—we are proud to celebrate you this month and every month!

After more than 52 years of dedicated medical practice, we celebrate the remarkable career and official retirement of Dr. Cary Stroud by dedicating a mural in our new inpatient unit to Dr Stroud, Dr. Hayes, and Dr. Schmidt. Dr. Stroud began his career with The Christie Group, where he quickly recognized a critical gap in care, the need for a local pediatric hematology-oncology practice in the Upstate. In 1986, alongside Dr. James Hayes, he helped establish the Pediatric Hematology-Oncology clinic, bringing specialized, life-saving care closer to home for countless children and families. This vision and commitment laid the foundation for pediatric HemOnc care in our community. Throughout his career, Dr. Stroud was known not only for his clinical expertise, but also for his compassion, advocacy, and dedication to patients, families, trainees, and colleagues. Dr. Stroud finished his career working with our Pediatric Hospice and Palliative Care department. As Dr. Stroud enters retirement, we honor a legacy defined by excellence, innovation, and heart. His lasting impact in the Upstate and on the lives of so many children and families will be felt for generations to come. Congratulations, Dr. Stroud, and thank you for over five decades of extraordinary service. 💛💙❤️
