This is a fig tree, that is especially sensitive to poor drainage....if the ROOTS sit in waterlog soil, fungi can cause root rot! The top may still look green for a while..BUT underneath, roots become soft, dark, and mushy instead of firm and white..
-Sometimes the trunk or root crown can rot internally while the outer bark still looks normal! The tree survives off whatever healthy Roots remain--UNTIL SUDDENLY DECLINES...
-Trees often show stress LAST in their leaves!
What Jesus said about the fig trees:
"You will recognize them by their fruits"
MATTHEW 7:16
When Jesus cursed the fig tree, it LOOKED leafy but had NO FRUIT--IT HAD THE APPEARANCE OF LIFE WITHOUT THE SUBSTANCE...
Sometimes something can LOOK ALIVE on the OUTSIDE but be unhealthy at the root...
Spiritually, a person can look healthy from a distant and yet be "rotting" underneath at the root...
In scripture, roots represent what is HIDDEN-- the HEART,MOTIVES, PRIVATE LIFE, FOUNDATION...
WE can look healthy until WE EXAMINE CLOSELY... FIRST, examining OUR OWN FRUIT, then others..
ROOT ROT that WE don't like to talk about can look spiritually like:
-hidden sin never dealt with
-bitterness buried but never healed
-PRIDE masked by spiritual language
-serving publicly while neglecting private devotion
-Ministry success without intimacy with God
"Blessed is the one whose roots go deep by the water'
JEREMIAH 17:7-8
"Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my thoughts; and see if there be any wicked way in me, and leave me in the way everlasting"
PSALMS 139:23-24
