High-risk pregnancy care shouldn’t feel like a coin toss, but the data suggests it often does.
Nationally, only 52% of high-risk pregnancies involve maternal-fetal medicine care, despite clear clinical recommendations. Outside major metro areas, the odds drop even further: just 29.5% of rural high-risk pregnancies receive MFM involvement, compared to 51.3% in urban settings.
For health systems focused on quality, equity, and consistency, these numbers highlight a significant access gap—one that places added strain on clinicians and introduces unnecessary risk for patients.
