We are so excited to announce that Sarah Cotterman, Ed.S, LPCA, NCC has joined our therapist team.

Sarah is a child and adolescent therapist focused on creating a safe, compassionate space where children and teens feel seen, heard, and empowered to express themselves authentically. She specializes in working with children using Child-Centered Play Therapy and Expressive Arts as well as cognitive-based therapies. Whether working through anxiety, behavioral challenges, trauma, or life transitions, Sarah helps young clients develop a positive self-concept, build emotional resilience, and create healthy coping strategies. She incorporates working with families by using neuroscience and attachment theory to help them understand the “why” behind behaviors.

Sarah holds an Ed.S. in Counselor Education with a focus on Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of South Carolina. She has extensive trauma-informed training and holds a certificate in play therapy. She is working toward becoming a Registered Play Therapist.

She has current openings for in-person sessions at our Greenville office for children and parents.

She accepts Healthy Blue/Blue Choice Medicaid, Molina Medicaid, SC Healthy Connections Medicaid, Humana Medicaid, Cigna, and Aetna.

Beauty for Ashes Counseling provides TRAUMA-INFORMED services that incorporate traditional counseling, expressive arts and play therapy to adults, children, & families seeking relief from anxiety, depression, trauma, dissociation and PTSD. Through its success, Beauty for Ashes Counseling, LLC has grown from a single therapist to over 10 therapists, and two locations spanning 150 miles apart. It is the only the only dedicated art and play therapy practice in the upstate and Sumter County with both board-certified art therapists and registered play therapists.

From the beginning, the vision of therapist and founder Cheryl Childers has been to offer premier trauma-informed creative arts-based therapy. The company grew beyond traditional counseling and therapy models by incorporating expressive arts therapies, play therapy with traditional trauma-informed treatment, expanding to a clinician education program.

As the first Art and Play Therapy Centered Practice in the Upstate and Sumter County, Beauty for Ashes Counseling will soon become Art and Play Therapy Studios to better focus its mission to be at the forefront of trauma-informed expressive and creative arts therapy treatment.

We feel deeply honored and privileged to serve our service men and woman, their families, and veterans in our counseling practice. Due to the ongoing system errors in TRICARE’s merged claims processing, it is with great sadness that we announce we are no longer able to process clients claims for reimbursement.

On January 1, 2025, the claims processor for Tricare Humana East transitioned from WPS to PGBA. Unfortunately, the data merge associated with this transition remains incomplete, and there are significant errors in the system. These errors have hindered our practice from submitting claims for services rendered, resulting in a lack of reimbursement for the services we provide. Despite our efforts to resolve issues on our end, this is a national issue with no clear timeline for resolution.

As a result, beginning immediately, we will be moving to a cash-pay model for all services. This means that Tricare clients will be responsible for paying out-of-pocket at the time of service. We can offer you a super bill that you can try sending TRICARE to get reimbursed on your own, but we cannot guarantee reimbursement. Our sincere hope is that once TRICARE resolves these processing issues, we will be able to begin to submit claims for future. However, at this time, we cannot guarantee if or when this resolution will occur.

We understand that this change may cause financial strain, and we deeply regret the inconvenience it may cause.
Please know how difficult this decision has been as we deeply care for and value each and every one of you. We are committed to advocating on behalf of our clients and will continue pushing for a resolution with TRICARE.
