The key to safe transfers for caregivers:

*Avoid twisting
*Lift with the legs
*Use of a transfer/gait belt
*Bend at the hips and knees
*Assume the patient lacks strength
*Bed to wheelchair & back
*Communicate with the person you're transferring
*Keep your feet apart
*Lock the brakes
*Using a transfer board if needed
