We’re stepping up recruitment! Congrats, Dr. Chelley Alexander, for being selected the founding Assistant Dean for Rural Health Pathway Program. Our student body is about to hit a growth spurt. We need to fill our seats with the best! Congrats, too, to Dr. Jonathon Firnhaber. He takes over as Family Medicine interim chair.

to Dr. Justin Edwards for his appointment as the inaugural Dr. James G. Jones Distinguished Professor of Family Medicine. Named in honor for Dr. Jones, the founding chair of the Department of Family Medicine at the Brody School of Medicine, the professorship was created to recognize "a faculty member who demonstrates vision, leadership, commitment to teaching medical students and residents, a history of training physicians who will meet the health care needs of the state, and the compassionate care to improve the health and well-being of the region."

Family Medicine residents and faculty kicked off the new academic year with the annual residency retreat held at The Trinity Center this past weekend. Attendees enjoyed time on the beach followed by a session focused on team building and working together. It was a great time for our new residents to get to know the current residents and faculty. Rest assured that a good time was had by all!

🎉 Congratulations to behavioral medicine faculty, Dr. Marissa Carraway, for receiving this year’s Family Medicine Teaching Excellence Award - a prestigious award voted on by department faculty.

🎉 Congratulations to residency faculty, Dr. Matthew Rushing, for his recent Brody School of Medicine Faculty Spotlight.

Drs. Carraway and Rushing were recognized at this week’s department faculty meeting by Dr. Jason Higginson, Executive Dean of Brody School of Medicine, and Chair of the Department of Family Medicine, Dr. Chelley Alexander.
