Yesterday, three dozen pirates sailed into our front parking lot aboard two mighty ships, bringing joy and excitement to our patients and their families. Behind the eye patches and pirate hats were generous Shriners from various Shrine Temples. Not only did they fill the day with smiles, but they also contributed $3,900 to support our mission. 🏴‍☠️❤️

With an infectious smile and unstoppable spirit, 4-year-old Karita is walking today thanks to the specialized orthopedic care at Shriners Children’s Greenville.

“At my 17-week appointment, the doctor noticed that she was missing her leg,” said Beverly, Karita’s mom. It wasn’t until Karita was born that they discovered she had proximal femoral focal deficiency (PFFD).

After seeking multiple medical opinions, Karita’s family found Shriners Children’s Greenville, where advanced motion analysis, a personalized treatment plan, and a custom prosthetic from our Pediatric Orthotic and Prosthetic Services (POPS) team helped her take her very first steps — and she hasn’t stopped since.

Do you, or someone you know, aspire to become a Child Life Specialist? 🌟

Shriners Children’s Greenville offers a Child Life Practicum Program for students currently enrolled in school who have completed coursework in Play, Child Development, and Introduction to Child Life.

This pre-internship opportunity provides hands-on experience through observation, patient interactions, and non-clinical assignments, all under the guidance of a Certified Child Life Specialist!

Applications for Spring 2026 are due on October 1.

After 28 years of devoted service, our beloved “Dr. Pete” Stasikelis is retiring from Shriners Children’s Greenville. Today, he was honored by our Board of Governors.

Since 1997, Dr. Pete’s steady hand and compassionate heart have shaped the lives of thousands of children. His commitment to our mission has left an enduring legacy — one that will continue to inspire us for years to come.
