Who am I?

Fill in the blank and remember what makes you uniquely you. No one person has all the same qualities.

To start I am... resilient, companionate, creative, a sister, a daughter, a friend...

Whatever makes up your list—the most important thing to remember is you are absolutely ENOUGH.

If your feeling anxious (and let’s be honest...who isn’t!) try this breathing technique coined the “relaxing breath.” Don’t try to think your way out of overthinking! 🤯 Take a breath...in fact, take a few.

Breathing through anxiety 101:

1️⃣Inhale through your nose for 4 counts

2️⃣Hold the breath for 7 counts

3️⃣Exhale through your mouth, forcefully and audibly, for 8 counts

4️⃣Repeat 3 to 7 times (or until you feel calmer)

For some this task is easy...for others it will feel like pulling teeth. If your someone that finds even the suggestion of this daunting—take the time and write it out...daily. Try it for a few weeks. See if it gets easier. Pay attention...is there a shift? If so, what is it?

People often ask, “what kind of things do you work on with your clients?” There’s no ONE thing. There is a endless number of reasons clients show up to their first session. The reasons above may be some of the “less obvious” reasons to reach out. Your life doesn’t have to be falling apart, you don’t need to be processing trauma, and you don’t need to be in the midst of a crisis to reach out. Of course, those are all *very* important reasons to ask for help—but there are an endless number of equally as important reasons to seek outside help.

Allowing yourself to be impacted by someone is sometimes the greatest gift you can give them. People don’t need to be fixed they need to be heard. Next time someone confides in you, challenge yourself not to respond with words. Pause. Stay present. Let what this person is bringing impact you. And if you can do that, the words will come, and they will come from the heart.

That’s the thing about life, we’re allowed to change our minds. We’re allowed to shift our perspective. In fact, the hope is that we do. Life is about growing, shifting, changing. Give yourself permission to let go of old ideas, give yourself permission to be wrong about things, give yourself permission to be fully human...and give the ones around you that same permission 💕

Yesterday was World Mental Health Day. I found myself feeling lots of feelings and thinking lots of thoughts such as.... "I should really post something" "I really don't feel like posting anything" "I don't feel motivated" "How can I NOT post something" "I need to post something" ....The dialogue went on and the day ended and I didn't post anything. Today, I woke up with fresh eyes and thought, "I want to post something." I say this not to give you the inner dialogue of my consciousness, but I say this because mental health matters. Mental health matters beyond what we think we should do, how we think we should act, what we think we should look like. I say this because yesterday I wasn't there mentally, and that is ok. Mental health matters every day of the year. Do what you can on the days you can. Don't beat yourself up. Your mental health matters more than what other people think of you. With that I challenge you-- Next time someone asks you how you're doing, give yourself permission to be honest. Let people in. Ask someone how they are doing today with a welcoming energy--an energy that says, I care and I want to know you.

There are loads of images around asking for help—from “it’s weak” to “I will be a bother.” I invite you to challenge those images. Asking for help is brave, courageous, and vulnerable. When we ask for help we invite others in, and dare I say we show our humanity 💕

What is in the room right now? I like to start with what is present for my client. There are a million different directions a session can go, but when we stick with the here and now I think it's the most impactful. What's present for you right now? 📷

I find myself underestimating the power of breath in my own life. Yes, I’m actually trained in understanding how powerful our breath can be on our mental state...yet I still forget to stop and breathe when things feel overwhelming! So, here’s a little reminder. Stop what your doing. Take 5 long slow breaths. Focus on the exhale. Notice the impact a few slow conscious breaths can have on your mental state.

Change doesn’t happen over night. It takes falling down and getting back up. It takes perseverance. It takes risk, courage, and faith that one day you will look back on all those individual steps and see the path they created.

As I post this I’m jolted back to the ever so familiar eye roll that came for years when my practitioner would pull out the cube. My resistance to body work was HUGE! Inevitably, time after time I’d feel the impact of hitting the cube. I’d feel the grounding, the clarity, the release, and yet still every time the eye roll came. I’m living proof that our resistance doesn’t prevent the shift if we are willing to lean in, push past, and walk through the internal chatter that holds us back.
