Today marks the first day of Spring, when the Earth finishes its rotation around the sun, and is a time for renewal. Persians celebrate this every year as one of the holy days of the Zoroastrian calendar dating back to 6th century BC. ☀️
Traditionally, a table called a haft-sin is arranged with 7 items beginning with the “s” sound in Farsi: sumac, sombol (hyacinth), sirkeh (vinegar), sabzeh (sprouts), sekkeh (coins), seeb (apple), seer (garlic). 🍃
I hope this year brings some change for the brave and beautiful women of Iran who have had to suffer political oppression and heartbreaking atrocities for so many years, but this past year in particular.
