Trump’s Freeze On Foreign Aid Is Murdering Patients in Treatment & Brings Epidemics To Our Shores, Reversing U.S. Policy and Efforts To Keep Epidemics Contained and Reduced Where They Are.

1. Support for alleviating the suffering of extreme poverty, where (pre-covid, pre-Russian invasion of Ukraine, pre-the famine and genocide of Palestinians, not sure what the numbers are today), 16,000 babies 4 years old and under died every day from starvation and other agonizing diseases that there are cures for, has historically been bi-partisan. Then important for you to know that currently there is an outbreak of Tuberculosis in Kansas that is the largest outbreak in modern history, that TB is more contagious than Covid, and historically has taken 9 months to 2&1/2 years to treat, at a cost in the U.S of $250,000.00 - $1 million dollars to treat a singular case of multi-drug-resistant-tb, MDRTB, and that a pause in TB treatment usually results in MDRTB. We are simply not prepared to whimsically end our strategy of keeping the epidemics of TB contained and reduced where they are. Btw, Ukraine and Russia have among the highest TB rates, and it is as well high in India, Pakistan, South American and African countries, i.e. where Americans go for business, leisure, or as part of their armed service. I am a volunteer with Results.org, one of many organizations that make up the anti-poverty movement.
Important to know:
1. Support for alleviating the suffering of extreme poverty, where (pre-covid, pre-Russian invasion of Ukraine, pre-the famine and genocide of Palestinians, not sure what the numbers are today), 16,000 babies 4 years old and under died every day from starvation and other agonizing diseases that there are cures for, has historically been bi-partisan. Indeed one of the largest funds for eliminating the AIDS epidemic is PEPFAR, a program instituted by George H.W. Bush.
2. The U.S. agency charged with oversight and development of anti-poverty programs is the United States Agency on International Development, USAID.
3. The main U.S. strategy for keeping epidemics of diseases that could overwhelm our economy, destroy our heath care system, and cause millions of deaths, is to work to eliminate the epidemics where they are.
4. It is congress that each year allocates the funds for USAID/international development/anti-poverty programs/eradication of plagues.
5. Trump has ordered USAID to freeze all funding of the medications, medical staff, and clinic buildings, that treat such epidemics as AIDS, HIV, Malaria, Covid, and Tuberculosis. As such funding is the domain of congress and not of the White House, Trump’s move is unconstitutional. So far the Republicans are not pushing back against this takeover of congressional power.

Do not be confused by your own mis-assumption that foreign aide is charity; for every $1.00 the U.S. invests in foreign aide we get $3.00 back, and these countries make up half of our trade partners. These countries are also our allies, and military leaders and Secretaries of State have historically endorsed the funding as critical to our defense.
7. Because of public outrage, Marco Rubio as Secretary of State announced ‘waivers’ to this policy, saying individuals will not be deprived of their treatment. THIS IS NOT TRUE. The waivers have not yet gone into effect, but what has is the reduction of staff and the shuttering of clinics, making treatment inaccessible for individuals.
