The can come with a lot of mixed emotions and complicated . It is so important to remember when we look at other people’s worlds they are not as perfect as they seem especially on social media. Every has their challenges and strengths. Every relationship has its highs and its lows. Sometimes we find ourselves showing up for people that we are very aware that we don’t like. Why? Because we likely love them, but do not like them. And that’s OK. It is more common than not to feel that way about some relationships. How do you navigate that?
!! That means internal and external boundaries. Does that mean you have to say “I am putting a boundary down”? No. not necessarily. That boundary could look like:
-setting a firm exit plan
-setting realistic expectations of yourself and others
-not engaging in conversations that make us uncomfortable
-doing things that feel good versus obligatory
-not doing things because “I’ve always done_____”
-doing things that make you happy

Exciting News! 🎉
I’m honored to share that I’ve been elected as the 2027 President of the Colorado Counseling Association!
I’m currently serving as President-Elect-Elect until July 2027, when I’ll officially step into the President role.

It’s a privilege to serve our counseling community and advocate for the growth, equity, and excellence of our profession across Colorado.

I’m looking forward to the work ahead—supporting counselors, expanding access to education, and promoting meaningful change.

We always want to keep the and in order to do so we often suppress things that we would really need to talk about. Just because we’re going to bring up something that might be hard to hear/say it doesn’t mean it has to land negatively. How we say things has everything to do with how it’s received. Try normalizing these laced in love and you’ll be amazed how well it can be received and watch the magic of the grow!

The term “Gaslighting” has become very woven into our society and vocabulary. And unfortunately, when something becomes so trendy, misunderstandings & misuse happens. Gaslighting is not when someone is lying to you. It’s when someone’s trying to paint a whole different version of reality than you, and refuses to acknowledge any other lens. It’s more than just not seeing eye to eye. It’s when someone’s interaction style makes you feel “crazy”. Gaslighting is a form of abuse and it should be used carefully. Here is a quick reminder of what it really is!

We need to normalize some of the hard parts of life, but not minimize them. Stress can be consuming and often hijack life. It can be incredibly empowering to remember that we have power over how we react to situations and manage them. Yes, the situation totally sucks but we still have some options! Maybe this new year we try handling things a little differently!!

Sometimes we say some things we do not mean or it doesn’t come out right. If we slow our selves down and check in with our inner self then our words will be more congruent to how we really feel!

As humans we are wired to need human connection. Research has shown we will choose love over food. How often do we keep relationships around that no longer bring us joy?! We all have done it for a variety of reasons, most often because of history. What if the relationship is expired? What is keeping you in it? What’s the worst thing that could happen? Will that be the end of the world?! Most often it’s not. When there’s abuse involved there’s special attention and planning needed but it’s possible. Value yourself, do the hard thing and step away from expired people, places and things. You won’t regret it.

How often do you find yourself feeling for saying something that another person responded negatively to (ie, sad, angry, silence, etc)? It’s so common that we elevate other peoples and over our own. In some cases we minimize our own needs so much that we end up responding negatively and feeling undervalued. Nope, we cannot control other people, but it’s incredible how we can change our relationships by understanding and owning ourselves and our rights. The outcome will be fulfilling, authentic relationships & experiences.

By increasing our comfort and acceptance of ourselves lays a foundation to a and life.
