The red monoliths, 380 stairs, and 6,450 feet of elevation were no match for this crew! Yesterday morning, several of our physicians and advanced practice providers hit sun-splashed Red Rocks Amphitheatre for an early-morning workout. Whether providing care in the hospital or high-stepping the stairs in Morrison, our team is dedicated to staying active and leading by example. Huge thanks to everyone who showed up to sweat, climb, and represent CarePoint on the rocks!

Last week, several of our physicians, advanced practice providers, and staff members spent the morning at Food Bank of the Rockies in Aurora, CO, rolling up their sleeves to help feed our communities! The CarePoint team stayed busy fulfilling orders from food banks around the city — pulling the selected items from the warehouse shelves, stacking pallets, and getting everything prepped for the delivery trucks. The highlight of the day? Some of the volunteers got to operate the massive saran-wrapping machine in the warehouse! Let's just say it was way more fun than fumbling around with a roll of plastic wrap in the kitchen 😉

When it was all said and done, our team helped prepare 117 pallets of food — equivalent to 75,630 pounds and 63,025 meals!

👏 Life-Saving Work ❤️ Our very own Chris Tems, MD, is the medical director of HCA HealthONE Aurora's new Extracorporeal Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (ECPR) program. This program — the first of its kind in the state of Colorado — and the people behind it have already saved many lives once considered lost.

ECPR is a high-stakes rescue technique in which an extracorporeal membrane oxygen (ECMO) machine temporarily functions as the heart and lungs for a patient in refractory cardiac arrest. The work of the ECMO machine enables the medical team to shift from struggling to maintain life through prolonged CPR to actively restoring life.

"I was always fascinated by ECMO and the potential it had to save patients we didn't have any other options for," Dr. Tems said. "There's no greater reward than watching a patient walk out of the hospital who, without this technology, most likely wouldn’t have had a tomorrow."

🚨 Physician Achievement 🚨 Our very own Samuel Killian, MD, a longtime CarePoint physician, has been named 2025 ER Physician of the Year by the Plains to Peaks Regional Emergency Medical and Trauma Advisory Council (RETAC), making him the first Lincoln Health (Hugo, CO) doctor to win the award!

Dr. Killian’s entire medical career has been spent with CarePoint. He joined the physician-owned practice in 1999 after completing his emergency medicine residency at Denver Health. Prior to joining the Lincoln team in 2021, he practiced at HCA HealthONE Swedish (Englewood, CO) for 22 years.

We are thrilled to introduce our 13 newly minted certified peer support specialists (CPSS)! Following weeks of intensive, specialized training, these individuals are ready to provide meaningful emotional support to any CarePoint clinician navigating adverse events or professional stress.

Being a clinician is hard. Our CPPSs give our physicians and advanced practice providers a space to feel, to be heard and supported, and to heal in a confidential, nonjudgmental way. Because for us, clinician well-being isn’t just a goal — it’s our commitment.
