Drug overdoses are often related to fentanyl-laced fake pills that pose a much higher risk of fatal overdose. Fentanyl can also be mixed in with other drugs without the individual’s knowledge.
Naloxone can be used to reverse the effects of an overdose involving opioids. The rise in overdoses has made it essential to increase availability and access to Naloxone in our community. Any community member can learn how to give naloxone. Naloxone (Narcan nasal spray) is available at no charge from Cornerstone and other local community distributors. For more information, contact Cornerstone at 864-227-1001.
It is important for anyone who witnesses an overdose to call 9-1-1 for medical assistance. South Carolina’s Good Samaritan Law protects you as well as the person overdosing from prosecution.
