Hooked on Fun 🎣

Men’s fishing outing was a total success!! Laughter, smiles, and good times were in abundance, and they are already looking forward to our next fishing trip!!

Days like these remind us that the best moments are the ones we share with the people we care about and can even be the simplest things such as fishing. Seeing the pure joy on everyone's faces was priceless.

Thank you to Rob and Julie Gillen for opening up your beautiful home and pond along with preparing an excellent meal with a delicious dessert for them to enjoy. You truly out did yourselves.

We received a wonderful, blessed donation today from our resident Gerry's family, Ron Driver. A 55-inch television in memory of his late son, Robert "Robbie" Driver. Today we had the distinct honor and privilege to host a wonderful 100th Birthday Party for our own, Charles Helland! Charlie has been a part of Country Charm for 12 years. Charlie was a corpsman (Pharmacist 2nd class) in the Marines during WW 2 and was engaged in battle operations on both Saipan and Iwo Jima. He enlisted in the Navy at the Great Lakes station on 9/22/42, but sometime after boot camp was taken from the Navy to serve in the Marines as a corpsman. He completed 6 weeks of Hospital Corps Schooling and 6 additional weeks of Field Medical Schooling, both sessions in San Diego. He was assigned, “Company B Medical Battalion, V Amphibious Corps.”
He earned two bronze battle stars for engagement with the enemy on Saipan and Iwo Jima, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal.
On Saipan, Charlie remembers he and other Marines chasing down Japanese women and children who were intent upon throwing themselves (as many already had) off the steep cliff on the other end of the island so as to be dashed on the rocks below rather than (as the Japanese a imperial Government had told them) be abused and killed by the American troops. Dad grabbed women and children who were kicking and screaming so as to bring them back where they were given food, water, and medical treatment.
Iwo was horrible as dad remembers the unrelenting noise from gunfire and mortar attack, and the sadness of watching buddies being killed. His one humorous comment about Iwo was, “I set the speed record for digging a foxhole.”
We thank everyone who came to celebrate with Charlie and his family today! What a wonderful celebration of life for a wonderful man! Thank you to the following for honoring Charlie: American Legion Post 355 Atkins Saw, Mayor Joe Hogsett, and The Office of the Sergeant Major of the United States Marine Corp, Pentagon, Washington, D.C.

John, a Magnolia Trails resident at Georgetowne Place, grew up on a farm and spent his childhood driving tractors and milking cows. He often shared these fond memories, so the team knew exactly what would make the perfect Tree of Dreams by bringing him back to the farm! The Waterford at Round Rock worked with resident Becky’s daughter to give her the surprise of a lifetime by restoring their family car, a 1965 Ford Mustang. Filled with memories of family vacations and drives with her late husband, Becky’s eyes filled with tears. The moment she saw the fully restored Mustang, she was overcome with emotion and gratitude. What a beautiful gift and a reminder of cherished memories!
