A great post about Dr. Christopher Mernitz of our Carmel location from our friends Indiana Birth & Parenting. Thanks for sharing!

Stop what you’re doing on this lovely Friday and TAKE A LOOK AT THIS PHOTO!!!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What do you see? Perhaps man in scrubs taking a photo?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What’s REALLY happening here?!?! Well, we’ll tell ya!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This same man supported the couples wishes, encouraged mom to reach down and catch her baby, and then not long after baby was born, he grabbed the camera from dad and started clicking away!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Not everyone in scrubs or a white coat is bad. In fact, the OBs we work with often are INCREDIBLE! The people who have worked within the walls of the Labor & Delivery units here locally for the past 10+ months have tried SOOOOOOO hard to make up for the things patients might be missing out on. Dr. M. saw an opportunity to fill the role of a birth photographer- and he jumped right in without hesitation!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Jordan supported this lovely couple this week- now a party of 3- and captured the moment with her phone. We’ve been snapping pictures at births when we can with our phones or a client’s camera- and this is hands down our absolute favorite one we’ve taken!!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
All the feels over here...congrats to our INCREDIBLE clients + their healthy baby boy! And thanks to Dr. M. always being so fantastic!

Go Red for Women! February is American Heart Month

One in three women are diagnosed with heart disease annually. On February 5, wear red to raise awareness of cardiovascular disease.

During the pandemic more people have engaged in unhealthy lifestyles, which can contribute to heart disease. “In most cases, heart disease is preventable,” Dr. Christian Dawes of our Indianapolis North Office said. “Adopting a healthy lifestyle, not smoking, controlling blood sugar and cholesterol and exercising are just a few things that can help prevent heart disease.”

Dr. Dawes said it’s even more important this year to get an annual checkup. “Many people are worried about going to doctor’s appointments or hospitals because of Covid-19. It’s imperative to see your provider on a regular basis and go to the hospital if you are experiencing any symptoms.”

Wonderful, caring and comfortable are only a few words that patients are using to describe OB/GYN of Indiana’s additional Center for Breast Health located in our Indianapolis South Care Center.

This new facility offers the most up-to-date technology, including 3D mammography and patients are loving the comfort and convenience of scheduling both a mammogram and annual visit on the same day.

“The new option of mammograms on site is awesome. Great staff to handle an additional procedure on-site. The person on staff for mammograms was awesome. Not a fun test, but she did her best to make it a comfortable as possible,” one patient said.

Another patient noted that the mammogram tech was phenomenal. “Very sweet and made me feel comfortable during the mammogram.”

This patient agreed, “The mammogram tech is the most wonderful and caring person. Please send some kudos her way for her kindness, it’s so rare nowadays.”

Indianapolis South Care Center Now Offering 3D Mammography for Breast Cancer Screening

We are excited to announce that we opened our second location today to provide in-office 3D Breast Screening Mammography for our patients. As part of Axia Women’s Health we are pleased to provide this additional in-office service as part of our extensive well-woman and breast care program.

“We are excited to add the new 3D Mammography suite as a resource in our office. Now a patient can get her annual screening mammogram the same day as her annual well-woman exam without having to make a separate appointment or go to another location or facility. Adding this service just made sense,” said Dr. Scott Bowers.

“3D Mammography is the gold standard for the detection of breast cancer and being able to test our patients within our office means a lot. We know how crazy life can get with family activities, work and social commitments and just everyday things. Now our patients don’t have to make extra appointments or carve out more time for a screening mammogram,” added Dr. Bowers.

Our Indianapolis North Care Center at 8091 Township Line Rd has been providing this service for several years and our patients have been very pleased with the convenience and patient comfort it provides.

If you are interested in scheduling a mammogram you can schedule online or contact the South Care Center at 317-859-2535 or North Care Center at 317-415-1000.

Check out our new mammogram suite at our South Care Center at 8360 Emerson Avenue, Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46237.

New, State of the Art Midwest Lab Opens!

OB/GYN of Indiana, A Division of Axia Women’s Health, is pleased to announce the official opening of the Axia Women’s Health Midwest Lab which will be greater than six times the current space of the physician-owned clinical laboratory in Indiana.

This new 7089 square foot facility located in Carmel, IN will offer state of the art high performing clinical analyzers that will allow lab personnel the opportunity to perform rapid serum pregnancy tests and STD testing and deliver results the same day. They will also continue to process general wellness tests including cholesterol screening, thyroid tests, and vitamin levels. Working in the lab will be eight certified medical lab technicians, cytotechnologists and hystotechnologists.

Lab Director, Verna McGuire, who has over 28 years of experience stated, “This has truly been an exciting development for our clinical lab services taking us to a new level by offering more comprehensive women’s health testing such as cytology and histology. This greatly increases the number of patients we can serve throughout the Midwest region.”

Our turnkey lab approach includes phlebotomists onsite to administer blood draws conveniently at our care centers and the fast turn-around of highly accurate results to our patients. Currently, the lab is COLA-accredited and College of American Pathology (CAP) accreditation is in process and expected in mid-2021.

Tim Dykema, Senior Vice President said, “The ability of our Indiana team in conjunction with colleagues from the Axia corporate office, to build this high-tech lab and make it operational at record speed, even with the challenges of COVID-19, is truly remarkable and a true example of living out our mission to be a more caring, connected and progressive women’s health provider.”

Make an appointment online at one of our nine central Indiana locations and we will be happy to service your lab needs at our new lab.

10/27/2020

OB/GYN of Indiana, A Division of Axia Women’s Health is excited to announce that nine of our physicians are being honored for their dedication and outstanding care by receiving Indianapolis Monthly’s “Top Doctor” honors.

The doctors receiving the honors for 2020 are Dr. John Cleary, Dr. Maret Cline, Dr. Tara Debikey, Dr. Elaine Dupler, Dr. Richard Gates, Dr. Hilary Gaudreau, Dr. James Jarrett, Dr. Cynthia Seffernick and Dr. James Teter.

“OB/GYN of Indiana is proud to have nine of our 40 providers win Top Doc honors,” Senior Vice President, Tim Dykema said. “To have so many of our physicians recognized over the years, including many repeat winners, tells of their commitment to medical excellence,” Dykema said.

“Top Doctors” are selected by their local peers and screened by the Castle Connolly physician-led research team, who selected the nine doctors from OB/GYN of Indiana to be among the very best specialists in obstetrics and gynecology in their communities.

Dykema said the “Top Doctor” honors shows their continued dedication to personal service and care. “As part of Axia Women’s Health we are creating a more caring, connected and progressive women's healthcare community because women deserve more,” Dykema said.

According to Dykema, OB/GYN of Indiana’s premiere quality of care and ability to build trust with generations of women are what sets them apart. “We build long-term relationships with patients, meaning moms send their daughters to see us. As a company, we are committed long term to recruiting only the top tier physicians who rank highest among their peers. Our physician leaders have instilled a reputation for maintaining the highest standards for the OB/GYN profession, marking the path for years to come,” Dykema said.
