Xanthelasma (cholesterol deposit) removal from the upper eyelid 👁️
Xanthelasma are benign yellow plaques caused by cholesterol deposits, affecting 1–4% of the population. They most commonly appear on the upper eyelids, but can also involve the lower eyelids. Since this condition is associated with elevated cholesterol, patients are advised to check their lipid levels with their primary care physician.
They are permanent without treatment and may gradually enlarge over time. Very small plaques can be treated with chemical peels or laser, but the most reliable and definitive treatment is precise surgical excision. This is often performed in the office or procedure room while fully awake or with light sedation.
With meticulous technique, minimal scarring can be achieved as shown here.
