After a brief intake to discuss any areas of pain or tension, a session is begun with the client lying face-up on a padded mat on the floor. With client and practitioner both wearing comfortable, loose fitting clothing, rocking compression is begun at the feet to establish a meditative rhythm to acquire a deep state of relaxation. Unlike most modalities, in Thai yoga, the practitioner utilizes the
ir feet, knees, forearms, hands and the use of leverage to put their client into passive yoga stretches. This work, dating as far back as 6000 B.C.E, is a beautiful and ancient approach to full body/mind/spirit healing. It combines reflexology, joint mobilization, myofascial and deep tissue massage techniques, soft tissue manipulation, energy work (meridian or sen channels of energy that run along the entire body) and of course yoga, into a balanced dance that can only really be made clear by the experience of it.
