💪🏿Exercise for the month: Tummy "Tucks"

👉🏻The deepest of our four abdominal muscles is called the transversus abdominis, and it is one of the pelvic floor's most powerful allies. Its strength is crucial for good core and pelvic floor control. This exercise is a great way to activate this often-weak muscle:

🤸🏽‍♀️Start by sitting in good, tall posture with your feet firmly on the floor. Let your tummy fully relax.
🤸🏽‍♀️Now, "tuck" your tummy by drawing your lower tummy inward; hold for a count of 5; remember to continue to breathe.
🤸🏽‍♀️Relax your belly fully, for a count of 5
🤸🏽‍♀️Repeat for 10 repetitions, twice per day.

(Tip: Focus on moving your tummy, not your spine.)

‼(Remember: it is important to check with your healthcare practitioner BEFORE starting any new exercise program. If you are unsure if you are doing this exercise correctly or have any pain, stop and discuss with your healthcare practitioner, or contact us at www.histherapy.net and we will be happy to help.)

🙂Deep breathing, aka belly breathing is good for your pelvic floor.

👉🏻It encourages your core muscles to relax and contract in a way that supports pelvic floor health.

💪🏿Start by lying on your back with your knees bent. Place one hand on your chest and one hand on your stomach. (Belly breathing can also be practiced while sitting or standing.)

👉🏾To inhale:

Inhale softly through your nose while counting to five.

Your stomach and chest should feel as though they are expanding into your palms. There should be less movement at the head and neck and your stomach should rise higher than your chest.

Your pelvic floor descends and relaxes when your lungs expand and your diaphragm contracts, descending into your abdominal cavity.

The length of your inhale can be changed to suit your comfort level.

👉🏻To release the breath:

Breathe out through your mouth while letting your jaw drop.

Breathe out slowly, counting to five as you do so.

Your stomach and chest should feel like they're returning to their natural positions.

Your pelvic floor moves up in tandem with your diaphragm's elevation to its neutral position when it relaxes.

The length of your exhale can be changed to suit your comfort level.

🖐🏽Five deep, steady breaths, or as many times you need to feel comfortable using this technique, should be practiced.

👨🏻 June is National Men's Health Awareness Month

👨🏽‍⚕️Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer type in men after lung cancer. It ranks fifth globally among the causes of death.

👩🏻‍⚕️Radical prostatectomy is a recognized and effective method of treatment for prostate cancer. Research shows that the ten-year survival rate for patients after this treatment is 92%. It involves the removal of the entire prostate between the urethra and the bladder.

‼However, side effects such as urinary incontinence (UI), and erectile dysfunction may significantly reduce the quality of life Many men find themselves homebound, unable to work, and going through 10 briefs/day

👉🏻 One commonly used method to treat the side effects is pelvic floor muscle training. A pelvic floor therapist does thorough assessment of the problem, finds out why it is happening, and creates a plan to retrain the muscles to work with the rest of the body as a team. A plan to get you the results you want.

📈Results show that 75% of men were dry after 12 weeks post-prostatectomy. No pads, full bladder control restored, back to working full-time, and incontinence gets 90% better

📲 Book an appointment at www.histherapy.net with out Physical Therapist so that she can help you with urinary incontinence or any pelvic floor dysfunction you may experience after surgery.

📢Attention to all students and teachers!!!

☀Summer is here and this may be the only time to properly take care of your body! Summer is a good time to get your pelvic health problems under control with the help of a pelvic floor therapist.

👨‍🏫Teachers deal with a lot of urinary problems due to several reasons:
👉Limited access to bathrooms: Teachers may not have access to bathrooms for hours at a time, which can lead to infrequent urination and deprive them of drinking water
👉Stress: Chronic stress can cause teachers to hold tension in their pelvic floors
👉Posture: Teachers may spend their days standing on hard floors, leaning over desks, or sitting in small chairs, which can affect the strength and function of the pelvic floor
👉Raising their voice: Projecting their voice can strain the pelvic floor

👨‍🎓Students...
👉Up to 1 in 7 school-aged children may have pelvic floor dysfunction, which can present as incontinence. Other symptoms include leaking urine or f***s, constipation, and changes in voiding frequency. Causes include weak or uncoordinated pelvic
👉Teenagers have rapid growth spurts, poor posture, prolonged sitting, and excessive use of electronic devices that can contribute to pelvic floor dysfunction
😊 With that said, summer is the best time to get back on track and create a routine to help get rid of all those bad school habits. We care about your health!!!
