Graveside services for Bettye Beckett, age 83, of Grenada are at 11:00, Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at Woodlawn Cemetery in Grenada with Bro. Jeremy McMahan officiating. Visitation is Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Mortimer National Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Jake Beckett, Dane Bevell, Logan McDaniel, Jamie Fortier, Tommy Williams, and Joe Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Braxton McDaniel, Brice McDaniel, Jaxon Bliven, Thomas Fortier, Holland Adams, and Brooks Fortier.

Bettye passed away Friday, April 4, 2025, at the Grenada Living Center. She was born on December 10, 1941, in Grenada, Mississippi and was the daughter of the late Thomas Guinn Williams and Lucille McMahan Williams.

Bettye was employed by Commercial Credit in Grenada as a clerk and cashier until her retirement. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Grenada since 1966.

Bettye was preceded in death by her first husband, Lemuel Caviness Beckett, and by her companion of 23 years, Charles Costilow.

She is survived by four daughters, Patricia Beckett Hughes, Cindy Beckett Sultan, Lisa Beckett Clanton (Roger), and Scarlett Beckett Montgomery (Sean); one brother, John Thomas “T-Bone” Williams; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Obituary Notice

Funeral services for Doyle O. Tartt, age 84, of Grenada are at 11 a.m., Friday, April 4, 2025, at the Mortimer National Funeral Home Chapel in Grenada. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Grenada. Visitation is Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Mortimer National Funeral Home.

Doyle passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at his home. He was born on September 8, 1940, in Arkansas and was the son of the late Jimmie Paul Tartt, Sr. and Martha Ellen Pilgrim Tartt.

Doyle was the owner and operator of Doyle Tartt Concrete in Grenada. He was attended Hebron Baptist Church and enjoyed going to gospel singings. He was a long-time member of the Redgrass Hunting Club.

Doyle was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Michael Tartt; one sister, Jean Tartt and three brothers, James Tartt, Daniel Eugene Tartt, and David Tartt.

He is survived by one daughter, Shelia Melton of Grenada; two sons, Wayne Procella of Grenada and Ricky Procella of Louisiana; three brothers, Kirl Tartt of Elliott, Donald Tartt of Holcomb, and Jimmie Tartt, Jr. of Calhoun City; nine grandchildren, Miranda Procella, Jennifer Procella, Andrew Jackson, Heather Procella, Daniel Jackson, Tiffany Tartt, Kenneth Procella, Brianna Tartt, and Davin Tartt; and eleven great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.

Linda Moore Avery
Obituary Notice

Funeral services for Linda Moore Avery, age 74, of Batesville, formerly of Grenada, are at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at the Mortimer National Funeral Home Chapel in Grenada. Burial will follow in the Philadelphia Cemetery in Webster County. Visitation is Tuesday from noon to 2 p.m. at Mortimer National Funeral Home.

Linda passed away Saturday, March 29, 2025, at her home. She was born on April 17, 1950, in Webster County and was the daughter of the late Roy Moore and Thelma Jones Moore.

Linda was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ricky Avery; one son, Archie Avery; one sister, Wanda Miller; and two brothers, Wayne Moore and Larry Moore.

Linda is survived by one son, Richard A. Avery, Jr of Batesville; two granddaughters, Christina Lynn Avery Woods (Chance) of Grenada and Amanda Nicole Avery Bailey (Jordan) of Batesville; one grandson, Matthew Dylan Avery of Batesville; and four great-grandchildren.

The family asks those who attend the service to wear purple, which was Linda’s favorite color.

Lila Brown Shows

Lila Brown Shows, 71, of Clinton, Mississippi passed away Monday, February 3rd, 2025, at Saint Dominic Memorial Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. Graveside services will be Saturday, February 8th, 2025 at 2 P.M. at Mclellan- Wilkins Cemetery near West, MS. Lila was preceded in death by her parents Roderick and Hilda Davis Brown, and husband Mike Shows, in- laws Joe and Maurine Shows.
Lila was a dear friend to many, including her family members. She worked in the medical field in Administration for many years, where she met and kept many of her lifelong friends.
She radiated a happiness that was contagious. She enjoyed being a part of all our lives, being many of our strengths. She lived a happy life and she will be missed "'all the heart'" by many.
She is survived by her daughter Misty Mathis ( Michael) of Clinton, Mississippi and her son
Mike Shows( Katrina) of Mendenhall, MS. her sisters Linda Dickerson ( Miles) of Hesterville, MS
and Brenda ( Ricky) Tate of Tchula, MS. and 5 grand children and 2 great grandchildren, Lila was retired from Holmes County Hospital having served as finance office manager for many years..
