Life has lots of moving parts and pieces, doesn't it?

I know mine does, which is why I love the flexibility of teaching and taking classes online.

Sometimes, these moving parts and pieces impact my teaching schedule, which is happening the next two weekends. I amended the schedule, and I am posting it below.

What I learned this month is that you guys like consistency in the schedule, so I am going to refrain from throwing a bunch of pop-ups at you and teach the same schedule each week, with the addition of Ayurveda for LIFE once a month.

Speaking of Ayurveda for LIFE, I am leading that class tomorrow evening from 6:15-7:30 CST. Tomorrow's teaching is on ama, (toxic buildup in the body) ~ how to know if you have it, and how to gently detoxify if you do. We'll look at daily detox, as well as how to do a short personal cleanse and deeper, seasonal, cleansing.

Happy Friday!

If you want your weekend plans to include clearing your energy field, resetting your nervous system, energizing your body, and restoring clarity and intention to your mind and spirit, I can help with that.

I have two classes online Sunday that stand alone, and are complimentary. Maybe one is for you, maybe both are?!

10am ~ Sunday Morning Yoga ~ a teaching or story from the tradition (dharma), breath work (pranayama), movement and postures (vinyasa, asana), stretching, relaxation, and meditation are all touched upon in this 75 minute class.

6:15pm ~ New Moon Yoga Nidra ~ a full body relaxation meditation that is profoundly restorative. I'll guide you through setting up your nidra nest, then lead you into and out of the practice. The whole process takes about 45 minutes.

Take a look at your weekend plans right now and see if you can fit in one or both of these classes, then register.

It could not be easier to practice with me*. Find a space in your house where a mat fits, roll it out and click open the Zoom link. Keep your camera off or on. Wear yoga pants or not. Show up hungover or gung-ho.

None of that matters.

What matters is that you pause the noise and temper the chaotic pace and tone of life long enough to connect with yourself, that you stop looking outward, backward, or forward and turn inward, that you reflect, process, release, restore, and regroup so you can engage with the world again without becoming completely fried.

Nothing will do that for you like yoga.

If you are in need of some yoga in your life, I have a few different offerings coming up. They are all a little different. Maybe one of them, or more, is for you?

This week in person:

Tuesday Morning Yoga at the Mind Body Collective, 10am.

This class is a traditional hatha yoga class. It is moderately challenging and suitable for most people in reasonably decent shape. Modifications are given to make the shapes more accessible. For those who want to push themselves, options to make it harder are also given,

Wednesday Evening Slow Flow into Restorative at the Mind Body Collective, 6pm.

This is a gentle, primarily floor based class that moves slowly, and gradually dissolves into supported poses for passive stretching and deep relaxation. This class is suitable for anyone but will not bring the sweat factor. If you are looking to work out, maybe do that before and come for the peace.

This week online:

New Moon Yoga Nidra Thursday at 6:15pm.

The new moon is an auspicious time to contemplate what you want to bring into the light. Yoga Nidra is an opportunity to receive profound insight from, and collaborate with, the subtle realm within, in order to see these desires through. Journalling anchors the ethereal in present moment awareness, puts it right in front of you, and gives you a reference point for going forward. In this class we will spend some time in contemplation, then I will guide Yoga Nidra, then there will be journal time. Come knowing that worst case scenario, you will have a really delicious juicy nap, but there's potential for deep healing and profound insight.

Sunday Morning Yogaaaaah, Sunday 10am. This is a themed class inspired by a teaching from the Vedic tradition. Class opens with a teaching, often through story. Centering and movement portions of class are designed to anchor the teaching in your body. Poses and meditations are chosen specifically to facilitate this. There will be a flow portion of class and options to work harder or softer in the shapes.

Next week brings the Daya Shala Member Meeting and Ayurveda for LIFE, two more complimentary offerings to help you apply yoga to your life off the mat.

Beans truly enjoyed last night's restorative class!

We focused on lengthening the side body, breathing into the backs of the lungs, and softening the psoas (fight or flight muscle) in an effort to release tension and reset the nervous system.

It worked for Beans, it just might work for you, too.

Slow Flow into Restorative Pop-Up

This unwinding evening practice is designed for you to shed the detritus of the day, have a relaxing evening, and get some good sleep.

Generally, it is good to have two blankets, two blocks, and a bolster. If you don't have those items at home, good substitutes are bath towels, thick books, and sofa cushions, respectively. Covering the eyes is nice too, so grab an eye pillow, or a hand towel, and join me in the virtual classroom.

Your nervous system will thank you!

DID NOT WANT TO DO THIS TODAY.

So glad I did.

It’s so much easier to NOT practice yoga and adhere to an Ayurvedic lifestyle. Following the protocols and stepping on the mat for a practice requires a near daily pep talk.

However, when I put the effort in, the rest of my life is easier.

So, to the mat I go.
