Thankful Thursday 10/30/2025: Each Thursday we like to highlight a member of our staff that has gone above and beyond in some special way.

This week's submission id from Julie Weller: Emma Ledbetter is a Nurse Practitioner on our Palliative Care Team. Emma had a palliative admission this week that was more than she expected. She ended up spending over two hours with the family answering questions about palliative, hospice, and the general disease progression. Not only did Emma give the family her undivided attention, but she also did all of this while training a student. What a great example of compassion this student experienced. After meeting with the family and admitting the patient to palliative, Emma took the time to explain everything that had just occurred to her student. Emma is a great example of “doing the right thing, because it’s the right thing to do.”

Congratulations to our Guessing Game and College Pick Em' Winners from Oak Street Health and Beaverbrook Elementary School!

Fall was in the air in the City of Fayetteville and Logan Senior Village and St. George's Court! 🍁🍂

As always it was a great week at Brightmoor!

Why Brightmoor from Michelle Smith:

I was first introduced to Brightmoor Hospice seven years ago when my 21-year-old daughter, Kristen, received care through BMH. Before that time, I had never even heard the word hospice. I had no idea what a blessing it would turn out to be—for Kristen and for our entire family.

Losing my daughter after her two-year battle with brain cancer changed me forever. Her passing ignited in me a deep desire to change my life—not just for myself, but for the betterment of others. I wanted to use every opportunity I was given to show kindness, patience, and love.

For some, trauma and grief become catalysts for profound personal growth, leading to a greater appreciation for life, increased resilience, and a renewed sense of purpose. I learned firsthand how short and unpredictable life can be, and I wanted to transform my pain into purpose—to help others and to make a difference.

After Kristen’s passing, I knew I wanted to be part of the Brightmoor team. I left a 20-year teaching career to join the people who care for families in their most difficult moments—the ones who show up in the middle of the night when you need help, who listen when you need to talk, who give hugs when words aren’t enough, who buy cookie cakes and favorite meals just to brighten your day, who make Second Wind Dreams come true, and, most importantly, who hold your hand when you’re losing the most important person in the world to you.
Almost five years later, joining Brightmoor has proven to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I now work alongside some of the same incredible people who once cared for Kristen—people I now proudly call not only friends, but family.

I love being able to share Kristen’s story with others in hopes of helping them through their own grief. More than anything, I’m grateful to be part of a team that believes in doing the right thing simply because it’s the right thing to do.

Charlie’s dream was to shake Mickey Mouse’s hand, and with the help of our amazing team and Southern Belle Princess Parties, that magical moment came true! 🐭💗
Moments like these remind us why we do what we do, bringing joy, laughter, and love to those we are for every single day.

Fun Friday 10/17/25: Our Community Outreach and Marketing Teams have been busy out and about in the communities we serve!

We loved seeing all of our furry friends at "Woofstock" with Main Street Fayetteville, GA. We had a blast at Henry County Senior Services Golden Field Day and loved participating in the Senior Breakfast at the Lovejoy Community Center!

"Wicked" movie night with Henry County Parks and Recreation was a ton of fun and we enjoyed a beautiful day with the lovely residents at The Canopy at Westridge while hosting a petty zoo. We got crafty with our friends at Jonesboro Assisted Living and loved attending the Fairburn Heights Skilled Nursing Fall Festival and making snow cones!

As always, it was a great week at Brightmoor!
